국문 초록

본 연구는 『소년조선일보』(1937.1.10~1940.8.10)에 실린 삽화의 주요 양상을 살펴보는데 목적이 있다. 『소년조선일보』는 전체 4면 신문 체제를 안정으로 유지하면서 삽화와 만화를 꾸준히 싣는다. 『소년조선일보』의 아동문예물은 다양한 언어적 감각과 시각적인 표현으로 당시 어린이에게 즐거움을 주었을 뿐만 아니라 교훈적인 역할도 담당하였다. 『소년조선일보』의 아동문예물 삽화는 다른 지면에 비해 자유로운 형식으로 시도되었고, 시대적인 상황을 담아내려는 노력보다는 개인의 재능을 펼치기 위해 무대로 활용되었다. 전시체제기 미디어 공간으로서 『소년조선일보』의 아동문예물 삽화는 대중성과 예술성의 경계에 서있었다. 복제 가능한 삽화는 대중적인 미술로 자리매김함과 동시에 명암의 대비, 선의 굵기 등을 통해 정서적인 면모를 담아내며 예술성을 지향하였다. 또한 신문이라는 지면의 한계를 극복하기 위해 다양한 방식으로 공간을 활용하였다. 삽화는 배경 묘사를 통해 생활공간을 자연스럽게 보여주고, 공간이 확장되면서 묘사할 수 있는 행동에 있어서도 역동적으로 변화해 가는 것을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

Th e purpose of this study is to look at the main aspects of illustrations and cartoons in the Boy’s Chosun Daily (1937.1.10~1940.8.10). Boy’s Chosun Daily consistently loaded illustrations and cartoons while keeping the entire four-page newspaper system stable. Boy’s Chosun Daily’s children’s literary works not only entertained children at the time with various linguistic sensations and visual expressions but also played an instructive role. Th e illustrations of Boy’s Chosun Daily were tried in a free form compared to other newspapers and used as a stage to display individual talents rather than trying to capture the situations of the time. As a wartime media space, Boy’s Chosun Daily’s illustrations of children’s literature stood on the border of popularity and artistry. The replicable illustrations became a popular art, and they aimed to be artistic while capturing emotional aspects through the contrast of light and thickness of lines. In addition, space was utilized in various ways to overcome the limitations of the newspaper. Illustrations showed natural views of the living space through background descriptions, and we can see them changed dynamically in the behaviors that can be described as space expanded.
