국문 초록

『인민창작』은 1960년 북한 과학원에서 발행한 기관지 성격의 잡지다. 북한 과학원 언어문학연구소 문학연구실 소속 연구자들은 1959년부터 체계적인 수집 요강과 분류 체계를 마련하고 전국 범위의 자료 수집에 나서 해방 전후의 민요와 구전이야기, 속담, 수수께끼 등을 수집했는데 이들 자료 가운데 일부를 선별하여 『인민창작』이라는 잡지에 수록하였다. 이 잡지에는 ‘인민창작’이라는 이름으로 호명된 구전 자료들 외 한룡옥, 고정옥 등 이 수집 작업과 연구 활동에 종사했던 연구자들의 글이 함께 실려 있다. 『인민창작』은 1960년 6월에 창간되어 1960년에 총 3호가 발간되었고, 1961년에도 총 3호가 발간되어 전체 6권의 자료가 남아 있다. 최근까지 1960년 2호부터 5권의 자료만 남아 있었는데 한상언 씨가 1960년 『인민창작』 창간호를 발견하여 학계에 보고하게 되었다. 이 창간호에는 수집요강 외 ‘인민창작’ 수집 사업을 전국 단위의 ‘운동’으로 전개할 것을 독려하는 글과 편집자들의 당부, 기타 구전 자료 수집 과정과 경과 등을 확인할 수 있는 자료들이 실려 있으며, 한룡옥과 고정옥의 서문이 수록되어 있다. 이 글은 『인민창작』 간행을 둘러싼 1960년대 초 북한의 사회적 맥락과 역사적 조건들을 살펴보고, 『인민창작』 간행 의도 및 『인민창작』이라는 잡지의 성격과 특징을 규명하는 데 초점을 두고 서술되었다. 또한 『인민창작』이라는 잡지의 창간이 어떤 역사적 의미를 갖고 있는지 탐색하고 이를 통해 1960년대 초 북한 학술 담론장에서 ‘조선문학’과 ‘구전문학’, ‘인민창작’과 ‘민속’ 등의 개념이 어떻게 길항하고 교섭했는지 한 단면을 살펴보고자 하였다.

영문 초록

People’s Creative’ is a sort of journal published by the North Korean Academy of Sciences in 1960. Starting in 1959, researchers at the Offi ce of Literature, Language Culture Institute of the North Korean Academy of Sciences prepared guidelines for systematic collection and classifi cation systems and collected a wide range of oral materials in the period of liberation, including folk songs, oral stories, proverbs, and riddles, some of which were picked and published in journal ‘People’s Creative’. Th e journal also contains the writings of researchers engaging in collections and studies, including Han Ryong–ok and Goh Jeong–ok in addition to the oral materials selectively chosen in the name of ‘People’s Creative’. ‘People’s Creative’ published its first edition in June 1960 and two more editions in the same year, totaling three editions and printed three more editions in 1961, leaving six editions in total to date. Until recently, there have been fi ve editions left but Han Sang–eon discovered and announced the very fi rst edition of ‘People’s Creative’ to the academia in 1960. Th is fi rst edition includes the writings and editors’ requests that encourage the escalation of the ‘People’s Creative’ collection project to a nationwide ‘movement’, materials that allow us to see the process of collecting oral materials and its progress, and the prefaces of Han Ryong–ok and Goh Jeong–ok. This article examins the social context and historical conditions of North Korea in the early 1960s involving the publication of ‘People’s Creative’ and traced the concept of ‘People’s Creative’ from a genealogical perspective with focus on understanding the purpose of the publication ‘People’s Creative’ and its nature and characteristics. In addition, the study will explore the historical implications of the publication of ‘People’s Creative’ to understand how the concepts of ‘Joseon Literature’, ‘Oral Literature’, ‘People’s Creative’ and ‘Folklore’ contended and bargained with one another throughout the academic discourse in North Korea in the early 1960s.
