고려시대 충재의 원인과 성격

국문 초록

본 연구는 역사서에 기록한 황충에 대한 기록 증 곤충의 대발생과 관련 있는 기후변화, 식이 습성, 외래종의 출현 가능성과 황충 대발생의 관련성을 분석하여 고려시대 충재에 영향을 준 요인이 무엇이며, 충재는 고려인에게 자연재해였는가를 알아보고자 하였다. 곤충의 발생과 영향이 깊은 요인 중 첫 번째, 가뭄과 황충의 발생에 대하여 발생 월, 년도 별 관계성을 분석한 결과, 상관관계가 높진 않았다. 두 번째 황충은 식식성(植食性) 곤충 가운데 저작(咀嚼)형 으로 곡류 뿐 아니라 목재, 유실수 등 주요한 자연자원을 감소시켜 충재로 인식되었음을 알 수 있었다. 세 번째 외래종의 유입에 따른 황충 대발생이었나 알기 위하여, 발생지역에 대한 분석 결과 주요 발생지역인 북계와 서해도의 경우, 동쪽에 비해 평야가 발달한 지형이고 수도에 가까운 곳으로, 이곳의 곡물생산량 감소 시 식량공급에 영향을 미쳐 충재로 여겼을 것으로 보인다. 특히 이 지역은 아시아 대륙과 가깝게 연결되어 있고, 국제무역항이었던 벽란도도 개경 인근에 있어 외국의 자원이 자주 유입되는 곳으로 이를 통해 외래 곤충의 유입도 가능하리라 추측되며 곤충의 생태적 번식특성상 천적이 없는 생소한 서석지에 유입될 경우 대발생될 확률도 높았을 것이다. 본 연구를 통해 고려시대 황충의 발생은 인간의 자연자원에 해를 입히는 충재로 받아들였을 것으로 보이나, 그 원인은 가뭄 등의 자연현상보다는 자연을 훼손하면서 경작지를 확대한 개간, 자연자원의 경제적 이용 확대, 인간과 물류의 이동 등 인간의 생활권 확대와 관련 있을 것으로 추정된다. 또한 피해 정도에 대한 구체적인 언급이 적고, 주로 국지적으로 발생한 것으로 보아 다른 재해에 비해 피해정도가 적은 자연재해였을 것으로 보인다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the relationship among climate change, dietary habits, the emergence of foreign species, and yellow insects related to the occurrence of yellow insects recorded in history books to find out what influenced the occurrence of insects during the Goryeo Dynasty and whether it was a disaster to Goryeo people. First, regarding factors having a deep influence on the occurrence of insects, as a result of analyzing the relationship between the month and year of occurrence of drought and yellow insects, the correlation was not high. It could be seen that the second yellow insect was recognized as an alluvial by reducing not only grains, but also major natural resources such as wood and lost water. In order to know the relationship between the third occurrence of yellow insects and natural enemies, Bukgye and Seohae-do as two main areas of occurrence have developed plains compared to the east. They are close to the capital. In particular, the region is closely connected to the Asian continent. There was also an international trade port wall at the time, which was believed to allow foreign insects to flow into unfamiliar western lands without natural enemies. Through this study, the occurrence of yellow insects during the Goryeo Dynasty is likely to be related to the expansion of cultivated land, economic use of natural resources, and movement of humans and logistics rather than natural phenomena such as drought. In addition, there are few specific references to the degree of damage. Since it occurred mainly locally, it seemed that it was a natural disaster with a lower degree of damage than other disasters.
