메를로-퐁티의 지각의 현상학 관점을 통한 장애인의 몸에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

전통적으로 장애인의 손상이 있는 몸은 결핍된 몸으로 이해되어 왔다. 이 관점은 몸과 영혼을 구분하고, 몸보다 영혼을 우월하게 인식하여 영혼을 온전히 담은 몸일수록 소위 온전한 몸으로 이해한 고대철학의 개념과 맞닿아 있다. 이러한 인식은 현상학의 도전을 받을 때까지 굳건한 자리를 차지하고 있었다. 이에 대해 연구자는 장애인의 손상이 있는 몸이 결핍된 몸인가라는 의문을 제기하면서, 현상학 이론 중 메를로-퐁티의 몸 철학(지각의 현상학) 이론을 통해 장애인의 몸에 대한 비판적 고찰을 수행한다. 메를로-퐁티는 『지각의 현상학』을 통해 전통적인 몸과 영혼의 관계를 거부한다. 그는 몸과 영혼이라는 이분법적 구도를 벗어나 몸을 ‘세계-에의-존재(l être-au-monde)’로 규정한다. 그는 사람이 어떤 대상을 인식한다는 것은 지적인 사고가 아닌 인간의 몸이 지각한다는 것을 의미하기에 지각의 주체는 몸이라 한다. 이러한 몸에 대한 지각은 손상이 있는 장애인의 몸에도 동일하게 적용될 수 있다. 결국 메를로-퐁티의 몸 철학은 장애인의 몸이 손상된 몸, 즉 결핍된 몸이라는 시각이 아닌 장애인의 몸 또한 ‘세계-에의-존재(l être-au-monde)’로서 비장애인의 몸과 다르지 않다는 구분될 이유가 없다는 관점을 제시할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Traditionally, person with a disability impairment body have been understood as deficient body. This point of view is in line with the concept of ancient philosophy that distinguishes the body from the soul, recognizes the soul superior to the body, and contains the soul fully, the more fully understood it as a so-called intact body. This perception occupied a solid position until it was challenged by phenomenology. In response, the researcher raises the question of whether the body with impairment to person with a disability is a deficient body, and conducts a critical review of the body of the disabled through Merlo-Ponti s body philosophy (perceptual phenomenology) theory among phenomenological theories. Merlo-Ponty rejects the traditional relationship between the body and the soul through The Phenomenology of Perception. He deviates from the dichotomous composition of the body and soul and defines the body as l être-au-monde . He said that the subject of perception is the body because recognizing an object means that the human body perceives, not intellectual thinking. This perception of the body can be applied equally to the body of person with a disability with impairment. In the end, Merlo-Ponty s body philosophy could suggest that there is no reason to distinguish person with a disabled s body as different from the non-disabled s body as a l être-au-monde rather than a impairment body, that is, a deficient body.
