의인 욥의 신원과 운명에 대한 칠십인역의 이해

국문 초록

욥기는 욥이 건강과 유복함을 회복하고 수를 누리다가 세상을 떠났다는 말로 끝난다. 그런데, 욥기의 칠십인역 본문은 책 전체의 마지막 구절(42,17)을 아주 길게 옮기면서, 욥의 신원과 운명에 대해 상세히 기술한다. 칠십인역 본문은 마소라 본문과 다른 두 가지의 추가 내용을 수록하고 있는데, 첫째는 욥이 장차 부활하리라는 예고에 관한 언급이고(17ㄱ절LXX), 둘째는 욥의 출신과 신원, 에돔 임금들의 계보와 욥의 친구들에 관한 정보들이다(17ㄴ-ㅁ절LXX). 본고는 칠십인역의 추가 본문이 지닌 주해적 기능에 주목한다. 히브리어 성경이 욥의 신원과 민족성, 구약 성경의 ‘주인공’ 이스라엘과의 관련성에 대해 침묵하고 있는 반면, 42,17ㄱ-ㅁLXX은 해당 내용이 기록 전승에서 비롯한 것이라는 정당성을 기반으로 하여, 먼저 욥의 부활을 명확하게 언급하면서 그를 오직 의인들에게 유보된 불사불멸의 상급의 수혜자로 드러낸다. 이를 통해, 책 전반에 걸쳐(3,1-42,6) 하느님께 항변하던 불평자욥은 ‘올바른 것을 말한 자’(42,7.8)로 하느님께 인정받은 것을 넘어, 영원한 생명의 영광을 누리는 완전한 ‘의인’으로 결정적으로 선포된다. 그리고 이어지는 추가 본문은 욥과 아브라함 사이의 혈연관계를 성경 전승에 기초한 족보 형식으로 명시함으로써, 욥을 이스라엘 역사 속 인물로 정초하고 믿음의 성조 아브라함의 직계 후손으로 드러낸다. 이러한 방식으로, 칠십인역의 추가 본문은 주인공 욥의 위상을 재확인하고, 구약 성경 정경으로서의 욥기의 권위와 정당성을 보완하는 역할을 한다.

영문 초록

The Book of Job ends by saying that Job has recovered his health and wealth and passed away, being old and full of days. However, the Septuagint text of the Book of Job, translating the last verse of the entire book(42,17) to a very long length, describes Job’s identity and destiny in detail. The Septuagint text contains two other additional contents different from the Masoretic text. The first is a reference to the announcement of Job’s future resurrection(v. 17aLXX), and the second is a description of Job’s origin and identity, the genealogy of the Edomite kings and the information on Job’s friends(v. 17b-eLXX). This article focuses on the exegetical function of the additional text of the Septuagint. Whereas the Hebrew Bible remains silent about Job’s identity, ethnicity and connection to the Old Testament’s ‘protagonist’ Israel, the passage of 42,17a-eLXX - based on the legitimacy of its origin in Written Tradition - explicitly mentions the resurrection of Job, revealing him as the beneficiary of the immortal reward reserved only to the righteous. By this verse, Job, the complainant who protested to God throughout the Book(3,1- 42,6), is decisively declared as a complete ‘righteous’ who is fully blessed with the glory of eternal life, beyond being recognized by God as ‘the one who spoke correctly of Him’(42,7.8). The following additional text sets out the blood ties between Job and Abraham in the form of a genealogy based on biblical tradition, which establishes Job as a figure in Israel’s history and reveals him as a direct descendant of Abraham, the father of faith. In this way, the additional text of the Septuagint reaffirms the status of the protagonist Job and serves to supplement the authority and legitimacy of the Book of Job as the Old Testament canon.
