멜키올 카노(Melchior Cano)의 사상의 배경과 그의 사상인 “신학의 장소들(loci theologici)”의 신학적인 의미에 대한 연구

국문 초록

멜키올 카노(Melchior Cano, 1509-1560)는 중세의 신학자이다. 그의 주저는 “신학의 장소(De Locis theologicis)”인데, 여기에는 당시의 사회적 사상적 환경과 함께 그러한 다양성을 대하는 그의 생각이 녹아들어 있다. 즉, 이 저서에는 신학의 전통과 토미즘을 바탕으로 정치적인 변화와 인본주의 그리고 종교개혁과 마주한 당시의 가톨릭 신학과 결을 같이 했던 그의 통찰을 살펴볼 수 있다. 카노는 이러한 다양한 기조들과 마주하며 선을 긋기보다는, 신학이 다른 논리들과 함께 어떻게 논리성과 합리성 위에 자신의 자리를 찾을 수 있을지 연구하였다. 그 결과로 두 부류의 열 가지 장소를 찾게 된다. 카노가 정리한 이 장소들은 신학이 참된 진리를 찾아나가기 위한 장소이며, 신학의 논리를 뒷받침할 수 있는 권위의 장소이며, 동시에 각각의 장소가 폐쇄적인 장소가 아니라 토의와 논쟁이 이루어지는 토론의 장소이다. 정리하자면, 이 장소들은 논증하는 방법을 통해 진리로 나아갈 수 있는 토대이다. 이렇게 카노가 자신의 저서를 통해서 제시한 신학의 장소들(loci theologici)은 다양성이 강조되는 우리 시대에 다양한 논리와 마주한 신학이 어떻게 자신의 정당성과 객관성 그리고 논리성을 확보할지 하나의 좋은 틀을 제시하고 있다.

영문 초록

Melchior Cano(1509-1560) was a theologian in the Middle Ages. His writing well known is “Theological Locations(De Locis theologicis)” that contains his thought on the diversity in relation with social and ideological environment in the era. The book shows his insight along with the Catholic theology on the theological tradition, political change and humanism based on Thomism, and the Reformation. Cano did not draw a line, rather he explored the various trend in positioning of theology with other logical ideas on locality and rationality. As a result, the ten locations in two categories were found. The locations Cano organized are the place of theology to pursue truth, the place of authority to support theological logics, and the place of discussion for open debate and dispute. In other words, the locations are the foundation to move to truth through methodical demonstration. Therefore Cano’s theological locations(loci theologici) through his writing offer a good tool for theology faced with various ideas to secure its legitimacy, objectivity and locality in the time of diversity.
