토론을 활용한 『어우야담』 교육 방법의 모색

국문 초록

본 연구는 토론을 활용하여 『어우야담』의 교육 방법을 모색하는 것에 목적을 두었다. 문학 교과서의 고전산문 수록 양상을 분석한 결과, 지나친 고전소설의 편중 현상과 지나친 생략 현상을 문제점으로 인식하였다. 그리고 대안으로 ‘야담’이라는 갈래를 제안하고, 『어우야담』의 교육적 활용방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 『어우야담』의 이야기는 현실과 매우 밀접한 관련을 맺고 있다. 당대 이념이 반영된 가치와 제도의 소재화, 사실주의적인 서술 방식, 작가의 가치중립적인 태도, 현실 비판적인 사고 등의 특징과 함께 『어우야담』이 지닌 필기적 특성을 종합적으로 검토하면서 『어우야담』이 토론을 활용하기에 적합한 작품임을 알 수 있었다. 이런 특징을 토대로 『어우야담』의 이야기에 내재된 토론의 요소를 분석하였다. 『어우야담』의 이야기가 지닌 특징은 현실에 대한 관심, 다양한 가치와 제도의 소재화, 사회 질서에 대한 문제 제기, 주제 의식의 논증적 형상화 등으로 정리할 수 있다. 그리고 이는 각각 논의배경의 적절성, 논의 대상의 다양성, 논제 선정의 적합성, 논증과 쟁점 형성의 용이성 등과 같은 토론의 요소와 연결된다. 이렇게 분석한 결과를 바탕으로 ‘요약과 가정-핵심단어와 핵심질문-입론-반론’의 4단계로 이루어진 『어우야담』의 교수·학습 방법을 구상하여 실제 수업을 진행하였다. 이를 통해 『어우야담』이 토론을 활용한 교육이 가능한 작품임을 증명하였다. 본 연구가 그동안 소외받았던 야담의 교육적 활용에 보탬이 됨과 동시에 이를 보완할 수 있는 논의가 진행되기를 바란다.

영문 초록

The study aims to explore the educational method of teaching Eou yadam through debate. As a result of analyzing the patterns of classical prose in Korean literature textbooks, excessive concentration of classical novels and excessive omission were recognized as problems. Thus, as a solution, a genre called “Yadam(野譚)” was proposed, and an educational application plan for Eou yadam was sought. The story of Eou yadam is closely related to reality. It has elements such as the materialization of the values and systems reflective of the ideology of the time, the realistic narrative style, the writer s value-neutral attitude, and the critical thinking, and the characteristics of “Pilgi(筆記)” present in the Eou yadam, that makes Eou yadam a suitable story that uses debate. Based on these characteristics, this study analyzes the elements of debate inherent in the story of Eou yadam. It summarizes the characteristics of the story as (a) interest in reality, (b) materialization of various values and systems, (c) raising questions of social order, and (d) logical embodiment of the thematic consciousness. These characteristics can be linked to the following elements of the debate: (a) appropriateness of the background, (b) diversity of the objects, (c) suitability of the topics, and (d) ease of argumentation and issue formation. Based on the results of the analysis, a teaching module centered around Eou yadam was designed and taught. The teaching and learning method consisted of four stages: a. summary and supposition, b. key-word and key-question, c. argument, and d. refute. These four stages suggest that Eou yadam can be effectively through the debate method. This research will hopefully help increase the educational use of “Yadam(野譚)”, which has been neglected for a long time. At the same time, further discussions are required to supplement this research.
