일제시기 체코슬로바키아에 대한 한국인의 인식

국문 초록

제1차 세계대전 이후 오스트리아-헝가리제국으로부터 독립한 체코슬로바키아는 3.1운동기 한국인에게 있어서 윌슨의 민족자결주의의 현실적 가능성이자 대한독립의 모델로 등장했다. 실력양성과 국제정세의 변화에 주목했던 한국인들은 1930년대 체코슬로바키아의 소콜운동을 민족운동에 활용했다. 한국인들에게 마사릭은 일종의 ‘전설’과도 같은 인물로 인식되었고, 백낙준이 마사릭의 정치력과 외교력을 칭송한 반면, 윤치호는 체코슬로바키아인들의 높은 지적 수준과 국제정세의 변화에 주목했다. 1933년 이승만의 체코슬로바키아 방문 중 마사릭과의 만남은 성사되지 못했지만, 동유럽 방문기에 등장하는 정치지도자의 이름은 마사릭이 유일했다. 한국인들은 독일의 체코슬로바키아 병합과정을 면밀히 살폈고, 독일뿐 아니라 병합을 방관한 서유럽국가들을 비난하기도 했다. 대한민국임시정부는 체코슬로바키아망명정부의 국제적 승인을 대한민국임시정부 승인을 위한 주요 사례로 활용했고, 중국에서 양국 정부는 협력했으며, 독립을 향한 열망이 공유되었다. 일제시기 한국인의 체코슬로바키아에 대한 인식은 독립국가 수립에 대한 선망으로부터 시작해, 제2차 세계대전기 민족독립의 의지를 상호 공유하는 형태로 발전해갔다.

영문 초록

After achieving independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire by the end of World War I, Czechoslovakia emerged as a realistic possibility of Wilson s idea of national self-determination and a model of independence for Koreans during the time of March 1st Movement. Koreans paid attention to nurturing competence and changes in the international situation and applied the Czechoslovak Sokol Movement to the national movement in the 1930s. During the period of Japanese rule, Koreans recognized Masaryk as a ’legendary’ figure. While Lark-June George Paik(白樂濬) praised Masaryk s political and diplomatic skills, Yun Chi-ho(尹致昊) paid attention to the high intellectual level of Czechoslovaks and changes in the international situation. Syngman Rhee s attempt to meet Masaryk during his visit to Czechoslovakia in 1933 failed, but Masaryk was the only politician mentioned during his visit to Eastern Europe. Koreans carefully witnessed the process of German annexation of Czechoslovakia and criticized not only Germany but also the Western European countries that stood by and watched the annexation. The Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea used the international approval of the Czechoslovak Government in Exile as a prime example for its international approval, cooperated with Czechoslovakia in China, and shared their common aspiration for independence. Koreans perception of Czechoslovakia under the Japanese rule began with an admiration for its establishment of an independent country and developed into mutual sharing of the will for national independence during World War II.
