영문 초록

Purpose Global supply chains are collapsing and industrial structures are changing due to COVID-19. The maritime transportation industry, which is responsible for the imports and exports of Korea, plays an important role in economic development. Therefore, this study analyzes the production inducement effect and industrial linkage structure of Korea’s maritime transportation industry. Design/Methodology/Approach Our research methodology uses an inter-industry analysis. The analysis data used came from the European Union’s World Input-Output Database (WIOD) National IO Tables (Released Number 2016). Findings According to the analysis, petroleum product manufacturing and warehouse and transport-related services industries are backward industries, while bulk production industries such as waste collection, materials recovery, treatment and disposal activities are forward industries. In particular, H52 (warehouse and transport-related services) is highly correlated both forward and backward, indicating that transport, storage, and handling of logistics are not independent and are linked. Research Implications Using the results of this study, effective industrial policy establishment will be possible considering industries with high production inducement effect to forward and backward industries by the maritime transportation industry. This study has a meaningful implication in that it provides a foundation for understanding the industrial structure linked to the maritime transportation industry.
