《조선일보》와《 소년조선일보》 속 현덕의 작품을 통해서 본 식민지 헤테로토피아

국문 초록

《조선일보》가 어른들의 세상이면서 식민지 질서를 그대로 반영하는 매체였다면, ‘어린이만을 위한 신문’이라는 정체성을 지닌 《소년조선일보》는 식민지의 지배 질서로부터 분리되어 조그마한 자유를 누릴 수 있는 특별한 공간이었다.어린이 신문에서만큼은 피식민지에서 생산된 열등한 아동이라는 굴레에서 벗어나,‘어린이’라는 어엿한 이름의 근대적 맹아로 인정받을 수 있었다.이처럼,《소년조선일보》는 일탈과 탈출의 공간이면서 현실화된 유토피아인 ‘헤테로토피아’와 같은 기능을 지니고 있었다. 현덕은 비슷한 시기에 《조선일보》와 《소년조선일보》에 소설과 동화를 발표하면서, ‘노마’라는 이름을 가진 어린이 주인공을 반복해서 내세웠다.주목해야 할 점은 《조선일보》 속 소설이 냉철한 현실과 부조리함이 팽배한 ‘어른들의 세계’를 살아가는 노마를 그리고 있다면,《소년조선일보》의 동화에서는 평화와 공존이 있는 ‘어린이들의 세상’ 속 노마를 그리고 있다는 것이다.식민지 지배 체제가 견고한 현실 속에서 노마는부딪히고 좌절하지만,헤테로토피아에 머물고 있는 노마는 안전하고 건강하게 성장한다. 현실 안에 교묘하게 숨겨 둔 특별한 공간 안에서 바른 방향으로 성장하기를 바라는식민지 지식인들의 바람이 반영된 공간이 《소년조선일보》였으며,이를 가장 극명하게 보여준 것이 현덕의 작품들이었다고 본다.

영문 초록

While the Chosun Ilbo was a medium reflecting the colonial order as it was an adult world, the Boy Chosun Ilbo, which has the identity of a newspaper only for children, was a special space where people could enjoy a little freedom by being separated from the dominant order of the colony. In children’s newspapers, it was recognized as a modern sprout with a decent name of “child”, freed from the confines of being an inferior child produced in a colony. As such, “The Boys Chosun Ilbo” had the same function as “heterotopia”, a utopia that became a reality as well as a space of departure and escape. During the same period, Hyun-deok published novels and fairy tales in the Chosun Ilbo and The Boy Chosun Ilbo, repeatedly proposing a child protagonist named ‘Noma’. It should be noted that if the novel in The Chosun Ilbo depicts a Noma living in a ‘world of adults’ full of cold reality and absurdity, the fairy tale of the Boy Chosun Ilbo is a ‘children’s world’ with peace and coexistence. It means that he is drawing the inner normal. In the solid reality of the colonial rule, Noma is confronted and frustrated, but Noma, who is staying in heterotopia, grows safely and healthy. The space that reflected the wishes of colonial intellectuals who wished to grow in the right direction in a special space subtly hidden in reality was the Boy Chosun Ilbo, and it seems that the works of Hyeon-deok were the most visible.
