국문 초록

본 연구는 코로나 사태 이후 압둘라 2세 요르단 국왕이 발표한 대국민 연설문에 나타난 설득 방식을 비평적 담화분석(CDA)을 적용하여 살펴보고자 한다. 연구 방법은 2020년 이후 국왕이 발표한 포스트코로나 시대의 연설문 세 편을 Fairclough의 담화의 3차원적 개념에서 1단계의 텍스트 기술(description)과 2단계의 담화수행 단계에서의 해석(interpretation)에 따른 거시적, 미시적 담화분석이다. 거시적 담화분석에서는 도전과 과제의 언급, 도전과 과제에 대한 태도, 국민의 참여와 협조 요청, 마무리하기의 순서로 담화가 전개되는 방식을 주제별로 분류하여 보여주었다. 미시적 담화분석에서 국왕은 국민에 대한 칭송, 국가에 대한 묘사, 긍정적 미래제시를 통해 국민, 국가, 알라를 담화구성의 주요 축으로 설정하여 위기 극복을 위해 이 세 축을 긴밀하게 연결시키는 점이 발견되었다. 언어적/수사적 전략으로는 인칭대명사의 사용, 어휘, 지시와 서술, 은유가 나타났다. 국왕은 자신과 국민의 유대와 친밀감을 강조하고, 자신의 목표를 달성하기 위해 1인칭 단/복수를 자주 사용하였다. 연설문에서는 국민들을 향해 해결되어야 할 도전과제를 언급하고, 국가와 종교에 대한 소속감과 정체성을 강조하여 감정적 호소를 통해 텍스트의 목적을 달성하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 한계는 코로나 이후 국왕의 연설문이 세 편에 불과하여 사태의 추이에 따라 달라지는 연설문의 상세한 변화를 추적하기에는 한계가 있었다는 점이다. 한편, 향후 과제로 본 연구를 타국가의 아랍 지도자들의 정치담화문과 비교한다면 흥미로운 연구가 될 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to work out how King AbdullahⅡ of Jordan persuaded Jordanians by adopting critical discourse analysis of his post-Corona speeches. This paper macroscopically and microscopically analyzes the King s three post-Corona speeches from 2020 according to descriptive and interpretive levels of Fairclough s three-dimensional framework for Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). This research helps us to comprehend how he persuaded his people and called for unity, and how this effort convinced the public to follow governmental instructions. Using macroscopical discourse analysis to approach the delivered structure and topics of the speeches, we can see how the speeches accentuate challenges, tasks to be undertaken and the required attitude towards them. The speeches also appeal to the people for participation and collaboration, also appealing to Muslim identity through the use of Islamic expressions. The microscopical discourse analysis of the king s speeches discovered compliments to the public, descriptions of the country, and positive representations of the future. Also, these speeches tease out themes such as people, nation, and Allah, then explain how intensively connected they are, particularly the inseparability of their relationship for solving the national problem of Corona. Through rhetoric/linguistic investigation, this study found several strategic techniques were utilized such as the use of the personal pronoun, lexicon, reference, description, and metaphor. The King used the first pronouns of the first speaker so as to emphasize the unity and intimacy between him and his people to achieve his goal. The research deals only with three of his speeches since he did not deliver more. This small sample is limited remarking on the King s changing speeches to reflect the fluctuating situation in Jordan. Also, it is expected that future research which compares these speeches with that of other Arab leaders post-corona speeches will be required.
