A powerful country, America, was experienced in the tense atmosphere of American Red Scare once again by 9/11 Terror Attack. The purpose of this essay is to understanding American Red Scare by means of May-Day Terror in 1919. Bombs, Riots, and more bombs, May-Day Terror in 1919, are alike 9/11 Terror Attack in response and reaction. Especially, the authorities and the conservative press to cope with the situation had a similar pattern. All kind of radicalism, labor movement, and socialism had treated as terrorism. Therefore these was placed in the position of making some disastrous mistakes which constantly subjected it to public suspicion. Employers and conservative people were brought to realization that the issue of radicalism could be helpful in their fight against unionism and radicalism. To certain politicians it became obvious that unionism, radicalism, and socialism are same terrorism and this terrorism would make an excellent political issue by which free publicity as well as votes could be obtained. The general press, also, found in the issue of terrorism an immediate implements for sustaining sensationalism and eagerly busied itself with reporting exaggerations instead of facts. Before and after May-Day in 1919, a series of unconsummated bomb terror had outbroke. Two public officials, Ole Hanson and Thomas W. Hardwick had received bombs. But the bombs did not exploded. And another 36 bombs was found Charles Kaplan, a clerk of New York post office, before a series bombing takes place. Despite of there was not the victims, some newspapers announced these startling events to a horrified public: “36 were marked as victims by bomb conspirators and Reds planned May Day murders. Succeeding bomb terrors many riots in the whole country outbroke. In Boston, New York City, and Cleveland, riots occurred and numerous arrests were made as enraged citizens, soldiers, and sailors attempted to break up Socialist parades. Newspapers and authorities throughout the country concentrated on the riots in these areas and offered editorial warnings that they might be dress rehearsal for an approaching Red revolution. By the way, on the evening of June 2, mysterious explosions occurred within the same hour in eight different cities. Though the police examined all explosions, but they did not discovered what the essence of the event was. Nevertheless, the responsibility of bombs as for the other perturbations in 1919 remained on socialist and radical shoulders. Hereafter 9/11 Terror, the responsibility of all kind of insecurity as Red Scare remained on aliens, especially the arabs shoulders. And authorities have solidified patriotism and tightened anti-terrorism.
