영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to argue for the hypothesis that the basic types of Small Clauses are vPs, or more specifically, as the functional categorial projection of VP(AP/PP), i.e. vP(aP/pP). This paper presents some characteristics of Small Clauses in order to show that there are some important properties unifying Small Clauses and distinguishing them from Full Clauses. CP and vP are claimed to be phases by Chomsky (2001a). The parallelism between the phases CP and vP assumes that the former represents Full Clauses and the latter Small Clauses. Arguments in favor of the vP-hypothesis of Small Clauses were firstly that Small Clauses are not properly analyzed as CPs and secondly they should be analyzed as vPs. In this section I also compare the vP-analysis with the analyses in the Small Clause Theory and the Predication Theory sharing properties. Furthermore, this study discusses the representation of tense in Small Clauses and how this is implemented in the vP-analysis.
