국문 초록

본 연구의 목표는 줄리아 크리스테바와 뤼스 이리가레의 타자성 관련 이론에 대한 고찰을 바탕으로 아브젝트 미술로 간주되어온 로버트 고버의 신체조각에 나타난 촉각성을 밝히는 데 있다. 타자화된 감각으로서의 촉각은 타자수용적이자 타자와의 매개로서 상호주체성을 실현하는 감각이다. 고버의 신체조각들 역시 그 형식과 내용 면에서 이러한 촉각성을 드러내고 있다. 이는 아브젝트화 된 신체 재현을 통해 타자의 정체성을 강화하며, 더 나아가 고버가 지향하는 상호주체적 존재를 표현해준다. 다시 말해 고버는 타자지향적 촉각성을 통해 아브젝트적인 것으로 해석된 신체에 새로운 정체성을 부여한다. 그로써 고버에게 신체란 더 이상 이질적 타자에 머물지 않으며 주체와 대등한 존재론적 위상을 갖게 된다. 요컨대 고버의 작품이 함축하고 있는 바, 촉각은 직접적 접촉이 불가한 작업을 포함, 시각예술 전 분야의 창작 과정에서 고려되어야 할 감각적 요소로 격상된다. 이와 더불어 시각예술의 촉각성을 밝히는 작업은 탈 시각중심주의 미술로의 도약이자 나아가 주체의 성립 및 타자와의 관계에 있어 핵심적인 창조적 힘을 발휘함으로써 이원화된 사회문화적 존재들 간의 새로운 윤리적 관계를 형성하는 데 기여할 수 있음을 밝힌다.

영문 초록

The aim of this study is to clarify the tactility showed in body sculpture of Robert Gober, which has been regarded as Abject art, based on the consideration of Julia Kristeva and Lucs Irigaray s theory of otherness. Tactile sensation as an otherized sense is a sense that realizes mutual subjectivity as a mediation of Accepting Others and others. Gober s body sculptures also reveal this tactility in terms of form and content. This contributes to the representation of the abjected body, reinforces the identity of the other, and further expresses the intersubjective existence that Gober aims for. In other words, through other-oriented tactility, Gober gives a new identity to the body interpreted as abject. As a result, the body for Gober no longer stays with the disparate other, but has an ontological status that is equal to the subject. In short, as Gober s work implies, the tactile sensation is elevated to a sensory factor that should be considered in the creative process of all fields of visual arts, including works that cannot be directly contacted. In addition, the work that reveals the tactility of visual art is a leap to post-ocularcentrism art and further, it will be able to contribute to form a new ethical relationship between socio-cultural beings by exerting the core creative power in the establishment of the subject and the relationship with the other.
