국문 초록

본 연구는 브라질 가족기업의 특성을 기업의 소유구조, 기업의 성과, 기업가치 간의 관계를 중심으로 기존 문헌을 활용하여 조사하였다. 브라질의 최근 개혁을 통한 경제·사회적인 변화가 브라질 가족기업의 기업가치와 성과에 미치는 영향을 전망하고 향후 연구 주제에 대한 시사점을 제시하였다. 조사결과, 브라질 가족기업의 소유권과 통제는 집중화되어 있으며 지배구조 면에서 비가족 경영인의 참여 등은 상대적으로 낮은 수준이다. 그리고 기업지배구조 특성 면에서 가족기업 간 이질성이 존재하므로 향후 브라질의 경제·사회적 변동 하에 가족기업의 기업가치와 성과는 기업에 따라 차별성을 보이리라고 예상된다.

영문 초록

This study examines the characteristics of family business in Brazil in relation to its governance structure, firm performance, and firm value by analyzing the existing literature. Considering the recent institutional reform initiatives and efforts by Brazilian government, this study tries to find implications on the prospects for Brazilian family firm’s performance and firm value as a result of firm response to economic and social change in the wake of the reforms. This study also makes an attempt to give implication on the future research subject in the family business area. The results based on the documents show that the family businesses in Brazil tend to be concentrated in terms of the ownership and the control. The level of participation of non-family manager in managing the business is relatively kept low. It is expected that firm value and performance may be differentiated among family businesses following the reform-led economic and social changes since there are some differences in the corporate governance practices among family owned firms.
