한국 기업의 지속가능경영 담당조직 변화에 대한 연구

국문 초록

최근 기업의 지속가능경영 성과를 투자의사결정에 적극적으로 반영하는 사회책임투자가 활성화되고 있다 이에 따라, 기업들은 기존의 재무적 성과 창출 뿐만이 아니라 기업의 지속가능경영 성과를 요구받고 있다. 본 연구는, 기업의 지속가능경영 담당조직 변화를 파악하여, 기업이 지속가능경영과 관련된 제도적 압력으로 발생되는 구조적인 변화를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해, 국내 지속가능경영 우수기업 6개를 선정하여 지속가능경영보고서 문헌탐구 및 담당자와의 심층인터뷰를 통해 지속가능경영의 담당조직의 신설·변경 현황을 파악하였다. 이후, DiMaggio와 Powell(1983)이 제시한 강제적 동형화, 모방적 동형화, 규범적 동형화의 제도적 동형화 유형을 활용하여 지속가능경영 담당조직변동을 신제도이론 관점에서 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 조사대상 기업들의 지속가능경영 담당조직은 모두 강제적 동형화, 모방적 동형화를 경험하지만 규범적 동형화는 일부만 경험하는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과를 바탕으로 지속가능경영의 제도적 압력에 대응하여 기업들이 어떻게 대응하고 있는지 이해하고 향후, 지속가능경영 전담조직이 나아갈 방향을 제시했다는 점에서 의미가 있다.

영문 초록

Recently, socially responsible investment, which actively reflects corporate sustainability management performance in investment decision-making, has been activated. Accordingly, companies are being asked not only to create existing financial performance but also to achieve corporate sustainability management performance. This study tried to understand the changes in the organization in charge of corporate sustainability management and to examine the structural changes caused by institutional pressures related to corporate sustainability management. To this end, 6 companies with excellent sustainability management in Korea were selected, and the status of establishment and change of organizations in charge of sustainability management was identified through literature research on sustainability reports and in-depth interviews with the person in charge. After that, changes in the organization in charge of sustainability management were analyzed from the perspective of a new institutional theory by using the institutional isomorphism types of compulsory isomorphism, imitative isomorphism, and normative isomorphism suggested by DiMaggio and Powell (1983). As a result of the study, it was found that all the organizations in charge of sustainability management of the surveyed companies experienced coercive and mimetic isomorphism, but only some experienced normative isomorphism. Based on these results, it is meaningful in that it understands how companies are responding to institutional pressures for sustainability management and suggests the direction for the organization in charge of sustainability management in the future.
