국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 한반도와 유사하게 식민지 종결 후 분단된 아일랜드 섬의 중심국가인 아일랜드 공화국의 분단극복을 향한 적극적 평화교육의 관점에서 교육혁신운동을 질적 연구방법을 통해 분석함으로써 한국의 분단극복 평화교육에 주는 시사점을 밝혀보고자 한다. 아일랜드는 식민지적 유제극복의 일환으로 안정적인 민주주의체제 수립, 경제개발과 성장, 아일랜드문화와 역사의 발전 및 국제적 기여 등을 통해 자주독립국가로서 성공적인 길을 걸어왔다. 그러한 과정에서 교육혁신사업 역시 세계적으로 주목받았다. ‘전환학년제(TY)’와 ‘모두 함께 교육하자(ET)’ 프로젝트는 아일랜드가 도달해야 할 포괄적인 역사적 과제 실현을 목적으로 한 것은 아니었으나 결과적으로 적극적 평화의 지표인 교육의 탈식민주의화와, 민주적 교육제도 수립, 교육에서의 차별철폐 및 아일랜드 섬 평화구현 등에 일정하게 기여하는 것으로 평가된다. 아일랜드 적극적 평화교육에 관한 비교연구 결과로서, 분단극복을 향한 이성적인 교육적 노력이 민족정체성 기반의 통일교육의 형식보다는 평화교육이어야 한다는 점은 우리나라 통일교육의 전환에 주는 시사점이 크다고 사료된다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to get an implication to the peace education beyond division in Korea through the qualitative field research on the educational innovation projects towards positive peace in the Island of Ireland, which has been divided since being liberated from the colonization by UK such as in the Korean peninsula. For its sake of eradicating the legacy of colonization, Ireland republic has proceeded a successful track for establishment of stable democracy, economic development and growth, restoration of Irish language, culture and history, and international cooperation and contribution. Irish educational innovation projects were attracted to globally. Transition Year(TY) and Educate Together(ET) are not stick to the same orientation for realization of the Irish historical tasks, however, it is said that both educational reformations are evaluated as contributing for de-colonization of education, transformation of democratic educational system, elimination of discrimination in education of gender, class and ethnic backgrounds, and peacemaking of the Irish Island through education. As a comparative result, it is a significant implication for the peace education in Korea that the educational effort towards overcoming division has to be frame of educating for positive peace intellectually, not single national identity-based unification emotionally.
