국문 초록

1923년 기생 강명화와 부호 장병천의 정사 사건은 새로운 시대의 연애를 갈망하는 당시 대중들의 호기심을 자극하기에 충분했다. 몇몇 작가와 출판사들은 이 사건이 지닌 대중적 파급력에 주목하고, 이를 소재로 한 소설의 저술 및 발행을 적극적으로 시도했다. 본 연구에서는 강명화 정사 사건 소재 딱지본 대중소설들을 새롭게 정리하고, 주요 작품들의 서사 전략 및 모방 양상을 구체적으로 살펴보고자 했다. 이러한 시도는 강명화 소재 딱지본 대중소설이 지닌 개별 작품의 특성을 넘어, 식민지 서적출판문화 속 딱지본 대중소설의 특징을 이해할 수 있는 유용한 방편이 된다. 이해조의 『(여의귀)강명화실기』는 당시 신문기사를 서사의 뼈대로 삼고, 그 밖의 다양한 소문을 취재하거나 허구적 상상력을 추가하여 하나의 소설로 완성하였다. 『(여의귀)강명화실기』 상편은 당시 대중적 인기를 끌어 사회문제가 되기도 하였으며, 강명화 정사 사건을 다룬 다양한 소설 텍스트의 모본이 되었다. 최찬식의 『(신소설)강명화전』은 이해조의 『(여의귀)강명화실기』을 저본으로 삼아 모방하되 딱지본 대중소설의 형식에 맞도록 기획 출판된 작품이다. 두 남녀의 운명적인 만남을 서두에 배치하고, 두 연인 사이의 사랑스러운 대화 장면을 삽입하거나, 장병천을 매력적인 인물로 묘사한 것은 『(신소설)강명화전』만의 새로움이라고 볼 수 있다. 철혼 박준표의 『(절세미인)강명화의 설음』은 『(여의귀)강명화실기』와 『(신소설)강명화전』을 복합적으로 모방한 작품이다. 『(절세미인)강명화의 설음』 압축된 빠른 사건 전개가 돋보이는, 가장 가볍게 즐길 수 있는 하나의 상품으로 기획된 전형적인 딱지본 대중소설이다.

영문 초록

In 1923, the affair between the prostitute Kang Myunghwa and the wealthy Jang Byungcheon was enough to stimulate the curiosity of the people, who longed for a new age of romance, at the time. Several writers and publishers paid attention to the mass impact of this incident and actively attempted to write and publish novels using it. This study attempted to newly organize popular novels that were labeled as the subject of the Kang Myunghwa affair and examine the narrative strategies and imitation patterns of major works in detail. These attempts go beyond the characteristics of individual works of the popular novels of Takjibon as the subject of Kang Myunghwa and become a useful way to understand the characteristics of Takjibon popular novels in the colonial book publishing culture. Lee Hae-jo s 『(Yeouigui)kangmyeonghwasilgi』 was completed as a novel by using newspaper articles at the time as the framework of the narrative, covering various rumors or adding fictional imagination. The 『(Yeouigui)Kangmyeonghwasilgi』 was popular at the time and became a social issue. It became a model for various novel texts dealing with the Kang Myunghwa affair. Choi Chansik s 『(New Novel)Kangmyeonghwajeon』 was a planned and published work which imitated Lee Haejo s 『(Yeouigui)Kangmyeonghwasilgi』 as a book, but conformed to the format of a Takjibon popular novel. Arranging the fateful meeting of two men and women at the beginning, inserting a lovely dialogue scene between two lovers, or depicting Jang Byeong-cheon as an attractive character can be seen as a novelty of 『(New Novel) Kang Myung Hwajeon』. Park Joon-pyo s 『(Severe Beauty) Kangmyunghwa’s Sorrow』 is a work that mimics 『(Yeouigwi)Kangmyeonghwasilgi』 and 『(new novel)KangMyunghwajeon』. 『(Severe Beauty)Kangmyunghwa s sorrow』 is a typical Takjibon popular novel designed as a product that can be enjoyed lightly with a compressed rapid development of events.
