A case report on fungal contamination and remediation in a leakage-water damaged apartment

영문 초록

This case study was performed to investigate the status of fungal contamination in one leakage-water-damaged apartment, and to evaluate the effectiveness of remediation methods. Airborne fungal samples were mainly collected by two-stage Anderson sampler. The level of airborne fungi in a water-damaged apartment was severely high (Mean: 51,000 cfu/m3, Geomean: 40,163 cfu/m3). After high concentrations of ozone treatment and removal of water-damaged walls were completed, airborne fungi concentrations showed lower level (Mean: 1,118 cfu/m3, Geomean: 899 cfu/m3) showing 96.3% removal efficiency. After ripping off wallpaper and biocide treatment inside the contaminated walls, airborne fungi concentrations came down to the relatively safe level (Mean: 95 cfu/m3, Geomean: 88 cfu/m3) showing 99.7% removal efficiency. The level of airborne fungi in the water-damaged apartment was very high, however, the remediation processes were very effective in a fungal contaminated apartment.
