학령기 가족식사의 실태, 어머니의 인식, 실천적 제언

국문 초록

본 연구는 학령기 자녀를 둔 가족의 가족식사 실태를 다양한 측면에서 알아보고, 가족식사에 대한 어머니의 인식과 어려움을 파악하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 학령기 자녀를 둔 어머니 629명의 온라인 설문조사 응답을 분석한 결과, 학기 중 평일에 아침식사와 저녁식사를 대부분 집에서 하였다. 학령기 자녀의 식사에 소요되는 시간은 평균적으로 아침식사 17.28분, 저녁식사 28.58분이었고, 어머니와 자녀가 함께 식사하는 경우가 많았다. 어머니들은 자녀와의 식사시간이 매우 중요하다고 생각하였고, 전업 어머니가 취업 어머니에 비해 가족식사 분위기를 긍정적으로 인식하였다. 자녀의 학년이 낮을수록 가족식사 예절을 가르치는 것이 부모의 역할이라고 인식하였고, 취업 어머니는 전업 어머니에 비해 가족식사 스트레스가 높은 반면 전업 어머니는 아침식사와 저녁식사를 매일 챙겨야 한다는 역할을 높은 수준으로 인지하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 가족식사를 주제로 한 부모교육의 가능성을 시사하며, 짧은 식사시간을 효과적으로 보낼 수 있는 방안, 어머니의 가족식사 관련 스트레스를 완화하는 방안, 학령기 자녀와의 의사소통 역량 강화 방안 등을 포함할 필요가 있음을 제안한다.

영문 초록

In this study, we investigate the specific practices and perceptions of family meals in Korean families with schoolaged children. Our data came from an online survey with 629 mothers whose first child was in elementary school in 2019. We found that, on weekdays, children in elementary school had most of their breakfasts and dinners at home with their mother. On average, it took 17.28 minutes for breakfast and 28.58 minutes for dinner. All mothers reported that family meals with their child are very important, but differences emerged. Full-time mothers were more likely to perceive the atmosphere of family mealtimes as positive compared to employed mothers. Compared with mothers with older children, mothers with younger children tended to believe that teaching table manners is the parents’ role. Employed mothers experienced relatively higher levels of family meal-related stress than full-time mothers, but full-time mothers were more likely to believe that they should prepare breakfasts and dinners by themselves. The results of this study suggest that parenting education focusing on family meals should discuss how to maximize the positive contributions of the short family mealtimes, how to lower mothers’ meal-related stress, and how to communicate with children during mealtime.
