국문 초록

본 연구에서는 주류사회의 다문화 인식이 이주배경 청소년의 학교적응에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 분석에는 KELS 2013의 1-5차년도 종단자료를 활용하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 주류사회의 다문화 관계성이 이주배경 청소년의 학업성취도에 유의미한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나, 일반학생들이 다문화 친구와의 관계를 긍정적으로 인식하는 환경이 이주배경 청소년의 학업성취도 향상에 기여함을 발견하였다. 둘째, 이주배경 청소년의 사회적 지지가 학업 관련 자아개념에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 교사, 친구, 부모와의 관계를 긍정적으로 인식하는 학생일수록 학업에 대해서도 긍정적인 자아개념을 형성하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 셋째, 사회지지 중 친구지지가 이주배경 청소년의 학업성취도에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 친구와의 긍정적 관계가 이주배경 청소년의 학업성취도 향상에 직접적으로 기여할 수 있는 가능성을 발견하였다. 넷째 주류사회의 다문화 관계성과 이주배경 청소년의 친구지지의 정(+)의 상호작용 효과를 발견하였다. 이는 긍정적인 친구지지가, 이주배경 청소년의 학업성취도에 대한 주류사회의 다문화 관계성의 영향력을 더욱 강화시킴을 의미한다. 이러한 발견은 이주배경 청소년의 학교적응을 위해서는 사회적 지지기반의 확대는 물론 주류사회의 다문화 수용성 향상을 위한 노력이 필요함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the effect of multicultural awareness of mainstream society in Korea on school adaptation of youth from immigrant backgrounds. Panel model analysis was conducted using panel data of 1-5th on KELS 2013 (Korean Education Longitudinal Study 2013). As a result, first, it founds that positive perception of multicultural relations in mainstream society had a significant positive effect on the academic achievement of multicultural youth. Second, it shows that the perceived social support of youth from immigrant backgrounds had a positive effect on their academic-related self-concept. Therefore, it can be seen that the more students who positively recognize the relationship with teachers, friends, and parents, the more positively they form a self-concept about their studies. Third, it tells that perceived friend support, a sub-area of social support, has a direct effect on the academic achievement of youth from immigrant backgrounds. In the case of youth from migrant backgrounds, we find the possibility that positive relationships with friends can directly contribute to improving academic achievement. Fourth, we figure out the interaction effect of multicultural relations in mainstream society and friend support of youth from immigrant backgrounds. This means that positive support from friends further strengthens the influence of multicultural relations in mainstream society on the academic achievement of multicultural youth. The analytical findings suggest that in order for youth from immigration backgrounds to adapt to school, efforts to expand the social support base as well as improve multicultural acceptance in mainstream society are necessary.
