거래비용과 디지털화폐의 화폐로서의 가능성

국문 초록

본고에서는 탐색모형(search model)을 이용하여 디지털화폐로 거래가 이뤄지는 균형과 그 균형이 도출되기 위한 조건, 그리고 가격변동에 따른 균형의 변화를 확인한다. 기본적인 모형에 따르면, 거래에서 각 화폐의 거래비용의 크기에 따라 시장에서 특정 화폐가 선택되는 균형이 도출된다. 그런데 화폐의 가격변동성이 커서 안정성이 담보되지 않으면, 거래에 따른 위험부담이 증가한다. 이는 거래비용이 기술적 수준에 따라 그 크기가 주어진 파라미터가 아닌, 변동성에 따라 크기가 달라지는 함수라는 것을 의미한다. 이를 반영하여 모형에서의 거래비용을 가변적이라고 가정하면, 앞서 도출된 균형의 조건뿐 아니라, 균형의 범위도 달라진다. 이로부터 경제에서 디지털화폐가 거래수단인 화폐로 사용되기 위해서는 거래비용뿐 아니라, 가격의 안정성도 중요함을 알 수 있다. 즉 디지털화폐의 안정성이 담보되지 않으면, 디지털화폐를 이용하는 균형이 도출되지 않거나, 도출되더라도 그 범위가 축소될 수 있음을 확인한다.

영문 초록

In this paper, the search model is used to identify the equilibrium that transactions are made with digital-money, the conditions under which this equilibrium is derived, and the change in the equilibrium according to price volatility. Basically, the equilibrium of the choice of a particular money in the market is derived from the size of the transaction cost of each money in the transaction. However, if the price volatility of money is large and stability is not secured, the risks associated with transactions increase. This means that the transaction cost is a function whose size depends on the volatility, not on a given parameter depending on the technical level. Reflecting this, assuming that the transaction costs are variable, the range of equilibrium varies as well as the condition of equilibrium derived above. From this, it can be seen that in order for digital currency to be used as a money as a means of transaction in the economy, not only the transaction cost but also the stability of the price are important. In other words, if the stability of digital money is not secured, it is confirmed that the equilibrium using digital money is not derived or the range may be reduced even if derived.
