지리산권 유불(儒佛)사상 기반의시문학 특징과 스토리텔링

국문 초록

본 논문의 목적은 지리산 관련 인물 중 남명 조식과 청허 휴정 및 그의 법손들을 중심으로 유불(儒佛)사상 기반의 시문학과 그것의 스토리텔링을 통한 지역문화 활성화 방안을 모색하는 데 있다. 문학적 상상력의 바탕에는 공간의 자각과 인식이 깔려 있는데, 이는 작가의식의 지향점을 밝히는데 중요한 출발점이 된다. 지리산 관련 문학 또한 다분히 지리산에 대한 작가들의 다양한 공간적 인식과 사상을 바탕으로 자기 정체성을 드러내는 것과 긴밀한 관련이 있다. 오늘날 우리 사회는 이성 중심의 패러다임에서 감성 중심의 패러다임으로 접어들고 있다. 미래학자 롤프 옌센(Rolf Jenssen)은 『드림 소사이어티』에서 정보화 사회 이후에는 꿈과 이야기와 같은 감정적인 요소와 상상력이 중요시되는 사회를 주장했다. 정보가 아니라 이야기하기(storytelling)를 통해 향유자의 공감과 감정이입을 끌어내는 것이 훨씬 효과적이며, 또한 향유자의 참여와 체험을 유도할 때 보다 능동적으로 메시지를 전할 수 있다는 것이다. 지리산은 유불도 사상의 산실이다. 지리산권의 다양한 문화유산 중, 유불사상과 문학의 스토리텔링은 살아 움직이는 지역문화콘텐츠의 향유가치를 높일 수 있을 것으로 생각한다. 이에 사람들이 어떻게 지리산자락으로 와서 선현들의 올곧은 사상과 삶을 담아낸 문학을 이해하고 이것을 자신의 삶과 동일시하는 경험을 하며 여가를 즐기고 갈 수 있는 스토리텔링 작업을 해야 할 필요가 있다. 따라서 필자는 지역문화유산의 소중함을 일깨워 주고 활성화를 위해 조선 유학의 최고봉 남명의 올곧은 선비정신과 불교의 최고 선승 청허와 그의 법손들의 사상과 삶을 담아낸 시문학을 중심으로 스토리텔링의 필요성을 강조하였다

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to examine the characteristic of Mt. Jiri region’s poetic literature based on Korean Confucian and Buddhist thoughts and to explore ways to promote local culture through its storytelling, particularly focusing on Nam Myeong Josik and Cheongheo Hyujeong & his dharma’s descendents. The basis of literary imagination lies in awareness and perception of space, which is an important starting point in clarifying writer’s sense of direction. Mt. Jiri literature is also closely related to revealing writer’s identity, based on various spatial perceptions and ideas about Mt. Jiri. Society today becomes on the way of rational-centered paradigm to emotional-centered paradigm. Rolf Jensen in Dream Society stressed a society of great importance based on imagination and emotional elements such as dreams and stories after the information society. His focal point is that drawing people’s sympathy and empathy through storytelling is even more effective than information, and that inducing participation and experience of people can deliver a message vividly. Mt. Jiri is a cradle of the thoughts of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. Among the various cultural heritages in Mt. Jiri region, I think we can increase the value of cultural contents by storytelling Confucian and Buddhist thoughts and their literature. Hence, we need to understand literature which expressed the upright thoughts and lives of the forerunners, and need to do storytelling the experience of equating this with one’s own life as well. To remind people of the importance of local cultural heritage and to revitalize it, I emphasized the need for storytelling the meaning inherent in poetic literature expressing the upright spirit of Joseon’s Confucian scholar Nam Myeong Jo Sik, the thoughts and lives of the supreme Buddhist monk Cheongheo Hyujeong and his dharma-descendents.
