야스퍼스의 죽음 철학과 그 죽음 교육적 함의

국문 초록

본 연구는 야스퍼스의 죽음 사상을 바탕으로 죽음교육의 함의를 고찰하는 것이다. 죽음을 한계상황으로 바라본 야스퍼스는 자신을 파멸시키는 죽음이 인간을 실존에 이르게 한다는 것과 더 나아가 초월의 세계로 지향할 수 있는 계기가 됨을 제시하였다. 그러나 죽음이라는 한계상황은 모든 사람을 실존으로 안내하는 것이 아니라, 자신의 죽음을 성실히 직면할 때 가능하다. 죽음교육의 함의는 다음 세 가지로 요약할 수 있다. 첫째, 죽음을 수용하는 것이다. 둘째, 자기 성찰의 실현이다. 셋째, 이타적 삶을 가능하게 한다. 우리가 본래성을 회복할 수 있는 관점에서 죽음을 성찰할 때, 죽음은 인간의 마지막 성장이 될 수 있다. 죽음교육은 자신뿐만 아니라 타인의 삶에도 큰 영향을 끼치며 함께 성숙하고 비약할 수 있는 매우 중요하고 의미 있는 교육이라 할 수 있다. 야스퍼스는, 불가항력의 한계상황에 빠져 매몰되는 것이 아니라 한계상황을 자신의 것으로 인수하여 철저히 고뇌하기를 바란다. 죽음의 한계상황에서 죽음을 맞이하는 태도는 인간의 자유의지이다. 죽음교육은 죽음의 속박에서 벗어나 우리 삶을 자유롭게 할 것이며 실존적 죽음을 향한 자유를 제시한다. 죽음교육은 인간에 대한 심오한 질문과 어떻게 살아가야 하는지에 대한 끊임없는 성찰을 담고 있다. 우리는 야스퍼스의 죽음 이해에서 죽음교육의 함의를 발견할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study examines the implications of death education based on Jasper s death thoughts. Jaspers, who viewed death as boundary situation, suggested that destructive death brings humans to existence, and that furthermore, it is an opportunity to aim toward a world of transcendence. However, the boundary situation of death does not guide everyone into existence, but existence is only possible when he confronts his own death faithfully. The implications of death education can be summarized in three ways. First, it makes us embrace death. Second, it is a realization of self-reflection. Third, it leads us to an altruistic life. When we reflect on death from the perspective of restoring its authenticity, death can be the last human growth. Death education has a great influence on the lives of not only oneself but also others, and it can be said that it is a very important and meaningful education that can mature and leap together. Jaspers hopes that we should not be buried in the boundary situation, but rather take over the boundary situation as his own thorough anguish. The attitude toward death in the boundary situation is human free will. Death education frees our lives from the bondage of death, offers freedom toward existential death, and contains profound questions about humans and important implications for how to live. We can find the implication of death education in Jaspers’ death understanding.
