대기오염이 국내 MICE 산업의 성과에 미치는 영향: 미세먼지를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 패널 데이터 모형을 이용하여 대기오염이 국내 MICE 산업의 성과에 미치는 영향을 규명하고자 한다. 본 연구의 표본은 국내 16개 광역시·도의 4년간(2015-2018) 월별 MICE 성과 데이터로 총 768개의 데이터를 본 연구의 실증분석에 사용하였다. 종속변수로는 MICE 개최건수와 참가자 수를 이용하였으며 K-MICE의 MICE 산업통계자료에서 수집하였다. 독립변수로는 월별 미세먼지 농도를 이용하였으며 통제변수 중 기상요인변수로는 기온과 강수량을 이용하였다. 또한 지역특성변수로서 15세 이상 인구수, 경제활동참가율, 유니크베뉴 개수, 국제회의업체 종사자 수, 관광위기 더미변수를 이용하였다. 패널 데이터 모형을 활용한 실증분석결과에 따르면, 당월의 미세먼지농도는 MICE 개최건수와 참가자 수와 정(+)의 관계에 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 MICE 행사의 성인 참가자들은 미세먼지의 위험성에 대해 크게 고려하지 않는다는 선행연구를 지지하는 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 그러나, 전월의 미세먼지농도는 MICE 개최건수에는 유의한 영향을 미치지 못했으며 참가자 수에는 부정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 이는 MICE 참가여부 결정이 대부분 사전등록을 통해 이루어지기 때문에, 행사 당월보다 이전의 미세먼지 농도가 참가 여부에 영향을 미치는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 또한 평균기온과 강수량은 MICE 개최건수와 참가자 수에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타나, MICE 산업은 기상요인의 영향력이 다른 관광활동에 비해 크지 않은 것을 알 수 있다. 본 연구의 결과는 MICE 산업의 성과향상을 위한 전략 수립 시에 유용한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of air pollution on the performance of the domestic MICE industry through a panel data model. The data used for this study is monthly MICE performance panel data from 2015 to 2018 in the 16 metropolitan cities and provinces. The data were gathered from the “MICE statistics data” of “K-MICE” and Statistic Korea , finally using the total of 768 samples for the empirical analysis of this study. The PM10 was used for the proxy variable of air pollution, as well as temperature, precipitation, population of activity rate, the number of unique venues, the number of MICE workers, and tourism crisis dummy were used for the control variables. The empirical result shows that PM10 does not have a negative effect on the MICE industry’s performance. This result implies that many adult participants of MICE don t care about the risk of PM10. However, the PM10 of previous month has a negative effect on the number of MICE participants. Since MICE participation have been decided through pre-registration, it could be seen that PM10 of the previous month affects on the number of MICE participants. However, weather factors, such as temperature and precipitation, don t have a significant effect on the performance of MICE industry. Because most of MICE events are held in the indoors, so it would be less affected by weather factors. The results of this research would be used to establish several meaningful strategies for the MICE performance improvement.
