영문 초록

This study examines the general perception and reasoning theories of Cheondo-gyo, the new faction, on the Korean society in the official publication, The New Humanity under the Japanese Occupation. The New Humanity was an official periodical which published its first issue in 1926 by the new faction and it was continued to exist until 1945. Despite the most of Korean publications had faced discontinuation during 1930s, The New Humanity can be consider as an exceptional case which continued to be issued until the end of Japanese occupation. It can draw the general perception of the time, dimension of response, and the key words which lead to such a transformation of the new faction in Cheondo-gyo after thorough investigation into some of articles in The New Humanity from 1926 until 1945. First of all, Vnarod Movement and Hangul Movement other nationalistic popular movements were published in The New Humanity before 1934, and the hegemonic struggle over acquiring upper hand in the society between socialist group and the new faction of Cheondo-gyo who tried lay societal influence by spreading ‘Cheondo-gyo jeiljui’. However, it was the time of period which the most Korean publications continued facing various expurgation, confiscation and no permission to publish under the Japanese Nevertheless, The New Humanity advocated conspicuously toward pro-Japanese by 1934 after it declared its transformation into Gyojujungjong(敎主政從) in the special edition of bonwonsudomunjaetuekjibho(本願修道問題特輯號) and when it asserted daedongbangjui in 1934. Afterward, the new faction of Cheondo-gyo wholeheartedly meet the need of war time mobilization in the reasoning of siunsibyun(時運時變), yongsiyonghwal(用時用活), daedongbangjui. Under such a transformation, it did not have any trouble to publish its editions until on the eve of liberation while other Korean publications facing discontinuance.
