국문 초록

기업이 지속가능한 성장을 하기 위해서는 효율적인 투자가 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 투자의사결정이 특히 중요한 첨단기술산업에 초점을 맞추어, 첨단기술산업에 속한 기업의 투자효율성을 분석한다. 첨단기술산업에 속한 기업은 투자가 기업의 생존과 발전에 매우 중요하기 때문에 제한된 자원 범위 내에서 최적의 투자를 수행하고자 노력한다. 그러나 첨단기술산업은 불확실성이 높아 효과적인 투자가 매우 어려울 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 첨단기술산업과 기타 산업에 속한 기업들의 투자효율성을 비교 분석하고, 첨단기술산업의 투자효율성을 제고할 수 있는 방안으로 소유지배구조의 영향을 연구하였다. 2002년부터 2017년까지 KOSPI 시장에 상장된 기업을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 첨단기술산업에 속한 기업은 그렇지 않은 기업에 비해 투자의 효율성이 낮은 것으로 나타났으며, 이러한 비효율성은 과대(과소) 투자의 양 방향에서 모두 유의하였다. 둘째, 기업의 투자결정에 영향력을 행사할 수 있는 최대주주지분율이 높을수록 투자의 효율성이 증가하였다. 위와 같은 연구결과는 첨단기술산업에서 경영자의 투자의사결정이 보다 신중하게 수행되어야 함을 시사한다. 아울러, 최대주주의 역할이 기업의 투자효율성 개선에 중요함을 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

Efficient Investment is important for a company to achieve sustainable growth. This study focuses on high-tech industries where investment decision making is particularly important, and compares the investment efficiency of firms belonging to the high-tech industry with those that are not. Companies belonging to high-tech industries try to make optimal investment with limited resources because investment is very important. However, high-tech industries are highly uncertain and efficient investment can be very difficult. Therefore, this study has analyzed the investment efficiency of companies belonging to the high-tech industries and other industries. It also studied the influence of ownership structure as a way to improve the investment efficiency of the high-tech industries. Using Korean firms listed in KOSPI market during 2002 to 2017, we find the following results. First, firms in the high-tech industries showed lower investment efficiency than those in the non-tech industries, and this inefficiency was significant in both the over-investment and under-investment. Second, the efficiency of investment increased as the ownership of the largest shareholder, which could influence the investment decision of the company, was higher. The results of this study suggest that management investment decisions should be made more carefully in the high-tech industry. It also suggests that the largest shareholders are important for the improvement of the investment efficiency of companies.
