국문 초록

고형렬의 『은빛 물고기』는 시인인 저자가 10년 넘게 연어의 일생을 추적하며 쓴 장편 산문이다. 장편 산문이라는 외부 형식은 물론 한 편의 문학작품 안에서 픽션과 논픽션이 끊임없이 교차하며 시적 은유와 잠언, 소설적 서사, 자전적 에세이, 자연과학적 사실이 공존하는 내부 구조는 보기 드문 것이다. 강원도 양양에서부터 캄차카반도, 아무르 강, 오호츠크 해, 베링 해로 이어지는 대자연에 대한 시적 묘사, 탄생과 성장, 죽음 등 인간의 실존적 고뇌에 대한 깊은 성찰의 언어는 우리말이 지닌 아름다움의 놀라운 진경을 보여준다. 안도현의 『연어』 역시 시인인 저자가 쓴 작품으로, ‘어른을 위한 동화’라는 부제가 붙었다. 연어를 의인화하여 사랑, 연민, 외로움, 슬픔, 자기존재의 주체성 모색 등 인간 보편의 감정과 존재론적 성찰을 담아낸 『연어』는 1996년 초판 발행 후 지금껏 무려 100만부가 팔린 스테디셀러다. 시적인 문체와 연어의 생태에 기초한 간결하면서도 속도감 있는 스토리 전개로 대중 독자의 사랑을 받았다. 하지만 이 두 연어 이야기를 연구한 논문은 좀처럼 찾아볼 수 없다. 이 글은 그 사실에 대한 안타까움에서부터 출발했다. 『은빛 물고기』와 『연어』가 지닌 서사예술로서의 가치에 주목하여 자연과학적 논픽션과 문학적 상상력이 교차하며 서사를 이뤄나가는 과정을 추적하면서, 여러 장르의 글쓰기가 한 텍스트 안에서 결합하는 구조적 특징, 연어의 일생을 서사로 구성해나가는 방법 등을 비교분석한 글이다.

영문 초록

The Silver Fish is a long prose work written by the poet Goh Hyeong-ryeol tracking the life of the salmon for over ten years. It is unique in its external form called long prose. It is also a rare work for its internal structure characterized by ongoing crossing between fiction and nonfiction within a literary work and the coexistence of poetic metaphors, aphorisms, fictional narratives, autobiographical essays, and natural scientific facts. In this work, the poet s poetic depictions of Mother Nature from Yangyang of Gangwon Province through Kamchatka Peninsula, the Amur River and the Sea of Okhotsk to the Bering Sea show the surprising spectacle of beauty inherent in the Korean language along with the words of profound reflection on human existential agony including birth, growth, and death. The Salmon is also written by a poet called Ahn Do-hyeon. Its subtitle is Children s Stories for Grown-Ups. This work personifies the salmon and offers universal human emotions and existential reflection including love, compassion, loneliness, sadness, and search for the independence of self-existence. It is a steady seller whose sales have surpassed 1,000,000 since its first edition in 1996. It has been loved by popular readers for its poetic style of writing and its simple and speedy development of stories based on the life of the salmon. There have been no papers on these two works on the salmon. This study was conceived by a pity for the fact. Tracing the process of natural scientific nonfiction and literary imagination crossing each other and creating a narrative by focusing on the values of The Silver Fish and The Salmon as narrative art, the study compared and analyzed the structural characteristics of various genres of writing being combined within a text and the methods of organizing the life of the salmon into a narrative.
