대학 글쓰기센터 운영의 현황과 과제

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 대학 글쓰기센터의 운영 현황을 점검하고 과제를 제시하는 데 있다. 구체적인 논의는 우리나라 대학들보다 역사가 깊은 미국 대학 글쓰기센터의 운영 현황을 통해서 그 특징을 살피고, 국내 대학들의 글쓰기센터 운영 현황을 통해서 과제를 제시하는 과정을 거친다. 2017년 현재 대부분의 한국 대학에서 글쓰기 관련 교과목을 필수로 지정해서, 학생들의 글쓰기 능력을 기르기 위한 노력을 하고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 글쓰기센터의 설치·운영을 통해 글쓰기 관련 학습지원을 강화하고 있다. 우리나라의 경우 1999년부터 글쓰기센터의 필요성에 대한 논의가 시작되었고, 2000년에는 문화관광부 지원으로 미국, 영국, 호주/뉴질랜드 대학을 중심으로 글쓰기센터 운영에 관한 광범위한 조사 연구가 있었다. 이후 2006년과 2007년에 서울대와 연세대를 시작으로 글쓰기센터를 설치하는 대학들이 점점 증가하고 있는 추세이며, 그 중에는 ACE사업 지원으로 글쓰기센터를 설치·운영하는 대학들이 다수이다. 일부 대학의 교수자들은 글쓰기센터의 운영 성과들을 학술 논문 형식으로 발표하고 있어서, 대학별 운영 현황을 파악하는 데 도움을 준다. 미국 대학의 경우, 글쓰기센터장은 글쓰기교육 전문가가 맡아서 운영하고, 글쓰기센터 전용 홈페이지를 갖추어 다양한 자료를 게시하고 있으며, 글쓰기 관련 교과목뿐만 아니라 다양한 글쓰기 프로그램을 지원하고, 타 대학/기관과 프로그램을 공유하는 등 안정성과 지속성이 글쓰기센터의 특징이라고 할 수 있다. 한국 대학의 경우, 글쓰기센터장은 보직의 형식으로 순환되기 때문에 센터장이 글쓰기 교육 전문가가 아닐 경우가 많다. 글쓰기센터 전용 홈페이지를 갖춘 대학도 있지만, ACE사업의 하위 프로그램으로 운영되기 때문에 전용 홈페이지를 제대로 갖추지 못한 대학들도 있다. 홈페이지를 갖추고 있는 대학들도 홈페이지상에 학생들과 교수자가 참고할 만한 글쓰기 교육 자료를 풍부하게 갖춘 대학들도 드문 형편이다. 예산 문제로 글쓰기 관련 교과목 지원이 제한적인 대학들도 있다. 타 대학/기관과의 프로그램 공유 또한 거의 없는 편이다. 따라서 글쓰기센터장의 전문성, 전용 홈페이지 및 교육 자료 구축, 글쓰기 교과목에 대한 풍부한 지원, 학생과 교수자를 위한 글쓰기 교육프로그램의 다양화, 타 대학/기관과의 프로그램 공유 등을 대학 글쓰기센터 운영의 과제로 제시한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to check the operational status of the university writing centres and to present the tasks. The detailed discussion explores the characteristics of the U.S. University of Education, which is a deeper history than the Korean universities. and through the operational status of domestic universities, it is through the process of presenting tasks. By 2017, most Korean universities have been trying to cultivate their writing skills by designating a curriculum that is relevant to most Korean universities. Moreover, it has strengthened the learning support associated with writing and operating the writing center In the case of Korea, discussions on the necessity of writing centers began in 1999 and in 2000, there was extensive research on the operation of the Center for Writing Center Operations in the United States, England and Australia. Since then, universities in Seoul and Yonsei University have begun increasing the number of universities starting in 2006 and 2007.Among them, there are many universities that install and operate a writing center with support for the ACE. Some university graduates report the operational results of writing centers in the form of academic journals, helping to determine the operational status of universities. In American Universities, Director of Writing center is writing education experts take charge of it. The website is dedicated to publishing a variety of materials. Various writing programs are supported as well as writing related subjects. Safety and sustainability are characteristics of the writing center, including sharing programs with other colleges and agencies. Korean universities also need to benchmark this point.
