국문 초록

혜암 이장식 박사의 아시아 선교사 연구의 특색은 일반 기독교회사 학자들의 서구 지향적인 기독교회사 연구와는 달리 동양 지향적인 연구라는 것이다. 그것은 초대 기독교 선교가 바울을 비롯한 사도들의 선교가 로마를 향한 서양 지향적인 것이 사도행전에 기록된 선교였기 때문으로 안다. 그러나 혜암은 오순절 다락방의 성령강림의 역사적인 사건에 참여하고 체험하였던 사도들과 함께 세계 각 지역에서 참석하였던 유대인 디아스포라가 많았기 때문에 그들이 귀항하였던 곳에의 선교, 특히 아시아지역에 관심을 갖게 된 것이라고 본다. 이에 대한 그의 대표적인 저술이 『아시아 고대 기독교사』(1990)이다. 이것은 한국기독교회 사상 최초의 일이다. 그런 의미에서 그는 아시아선교역사 연구 분야에 있어서 한국교회의 선구자라고 호칭할 만하다. 필자의 본 연구는 혜암의 저서인 본서의 중심적인 선교역사의 맥락을 요약, 평가하는 고찰을 하였다. 예루살렘으로부터 시작된 선교가 하나는 동쪽방향으로 흘러 에뎃사를 거처 남동쪽으로 흘러간 인도의 토마스교회와 또 하나는 동쪽으로 실크로드를 타고 북경에 이르는 네스토리우스파(경교)와 몽고의 유럽침공을 통하여 북경에 이르는 중세 로마가톨릭교회의 선교를 살펴보았다. 부록으로 연구한 “가야문화와 그리스도교 전래의 흔적 추적”도 주목할 연구 분야로 본다.

영문 초록

The uniqueness of Dr, Lee s study on the Asian Christian mission history is the eastern oriented toward Asia, unlike the western-oriented European centered studies by other Christian church historians. Generally, Church historians are interested to study the western-oriented Church history as the early Christian Mission by St. Paul and other disciples in the books of Acts was Western-oriented toward Rome. However, Dr, Lee sees interest in the missions of the Eastern Asian region, where the large number of Jewish Diaspora who attended from all parts of the world with the apostles returned after participating and experiencing the historic events of the Pentecostal Holy Spirit. His representative book on it is the Ancient Asian Church History, <1st-16th Cent.>, the first book on this field in Korea. In this sense, he could be called as the pioneer in this world on the history of the Korean Christian Church History. The writer on this study tried to understand Dr. Lee s study on the Asian Christian Mission History summarizing and appraising the mainstream of the central mission history in the book. The Christian mission, started from Jerusalem to the east side since the Pentecost event, was divided into two ways. The one was southeast side into India, through Edessa, is the St. Thoma Church Mission, and the other one was the east side way through the Silk Road into Peking, China the Nestorians in 7th Cent. and the Roman Catholic Church in 13th Cent. through Mongolian invasion into Europe, later. Lastly, “To pursue the evidence of the introduction of Christianity and Kaya culture” in an appendix is a research field to be noted.
