신체 불만족과 신체 보완 제품의 구매에 미치는 외모에 대한 사회문화적 압력의 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 대중매체, 부모, 친구의 영향과 같은 외모에 대한 사회문화적 압력이 신체 비교 및 마른 몸 규범화에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가, 신체 비교와 마른몸 규범화는 신체 불만족에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가, 신체 불만족은 신체 보완 제품의 구매에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 부산지역에 살고 있는 202명의 성인을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 살펴보았다. 수집된 자료의 신뢰도와 타당도를 검증한 다음 자료를 분석하여 가설모형의 적합도를 검증하고 각 변인들 사이의 인과관계를 검증한 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 본 연구에서 제시한 가설모형은 대체로 적합한 것으로 나타났으며, 각 변인들 사이의 인과관계는 대체로 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 첫째, 대중매체, 부모, 친구의 영향과 같은 사회문화적 압력 중에서 부모의 영향만이 신체 비교에 유의미한 영향을 미쳤으며, 마른 몸 규범화에 대해서는 대중매체, 부모, 친구의 영향과 같은 모든 사회문화적 압력이 유의미한 영향을 미쳤는데 그 중에서 친구가 가장 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 신체 비교와 마른몸 규범화 중에서 마른몸 규범화만이 신체 불만족에 유의미한 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 신체 불만족 정도가 높을수록 화장품, 옷, 액세서리와 같은 신체 보완 제품에 대한 구매의도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 사회문화적 압력 중에서도 특히 부모의 영향이 신체 비교에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타난 것은 자녀와의 대화에서 외모지상주의에 근거한 신체 비하적인 표현을 사용하게 되면 자기 존중감이 약해진 자녀가 자신의 신체를 타인과 비교하는 경향이 커질 수 있으므로 자기 존중감을 높일 수 있는 부모와 자식 간의 대화가 필요하다는 점을 시사한다. 또한 마른 몸매를 이상적으로 생각하게 되는 사회문화적 압력 중에서 친구의 영향이 가장 크게 나타난 것은 친구 사이에 공유되는 신체 기준을 적정 수준으로 유도할 필요가 있다는 점을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study tested hypothetical model on whether the appearance-related sociocultural pressure from parents, friends, and mass media influence people’s body comparison and thin body norm, whether people’s body comparison and thin body norm influence body dissatisfaction, and wether body dissatisfaction influence purchase of body goods. To test hypothetical model, survey was carried out. After reliability and validity of the measurement scale were verified, fitness of hypothetical model and hypotheses about causal relations among variables were tested. Fitness of hypothetical model was good and hypotheses about causal relations among variables were significant. First, among sociocultural pressure such as impact of mass media, parents, friends, the impact of parents was significant on people’s body comparison, and all sociocultural pressure such as impact of mass media, parents and friends influenced on thin body norm. Second, among people’s body comparison and thin body norm, only thin body norm influenced on body dissatisfaction. Third, body dissatisfaction influenced on the purchase of body goods. The finding that especially the impact of parents among sociocultural pressure was significant on body comparison imply on the importance of conversation between parents and their child to raise up self-esteem because the child who were discouraged from their parents’body blame expression could compare their body with those of their friends. And, the finding that the impact of friends among sociocultural pressure have a biggest influence on thin body norm imply on the importance of the optimal level of standard body which friends share.
