양성 평등의 관점에 기초한 고등학교 ‘사회·문화’ 교과서 사진 및 삽화 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 2015 개정 사회과 교육과정에 의하여 제작된 ‘사회·문화’ 교과서의 사진과 삽화를 양성평등의 관점에서 분석하였다. 이를 통해 사회·문화 교과서의 사진과 삽화에 나타난 성역할에 대한 인식을 바로잡고 양성 평등적인 관점에서 교과서를 집필하는데 필요한 기초 자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 이러한 목적 달성을 위해 교과서 사진과 삽화에 등장하는 남성과 여성의 출현 빈도, 인물의 성 역할 고정관념, 사회적 지위가 어떻게 표현되어있는지를 분석하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 고등학교 ‘사회·문화’ 교과서 5종의 사진과 삽화에 등장한 인물 중 남성의 비율이 여성보다 약 10.6%p정도 많음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 야구와 축구 같은 스포츠와 관련된 사진과 삽화에는 여성보다 남성의 등장 비율이 압도적으로 많았고, 반대로 교사가 등장하는 사진과 삽화에서는 여성이 남성보다 압도적으로 많았다. 또 사회적 지위가 등장하는 사진과 삽화에서는 사회적 지위가 높은 모습은 남성으로 묘사되는 경우가 많았다. 가사노동과 육아와 관련된 사진과 삽화에서는 여성이 대부분을 차지하고 있었다. 이에 교과서 집필진들은 사진과 삽화를 사용하는데 있어 양성평등의 요소를 반영하기 위해 노력해야한다. 학교 현장에서 교육을 담당하는 교사들도 교과서를 양성평등의 관점에서 비판적으로 바라보고 수업에 적용해야하며, 양성 평등의 관점에서 교육을 하고 있는지 스스로 점검해 보아야 한다. 이와함께 학생들이 교과서를 바라볼 때 무비판적으로 수용하는 것이 아니라 양성 평등의 관점에서 교과서를 바라보는 능력을 길러주어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The study analyzes photographs and illustrations in ‘Society and Culture’ textbooks of 2015 revised national social studies curriculum from the perspective of gender equality. The results are as follows.: firstly, men appeared more frequently by 10.6 percent than women in the photographs and illustrations of the five high school ‘Society and Culture’ textbooks; secondly, the appearance frequency of men overwhelmed that of women in the photographs and illustrations related to sports such as baseball and soccer, but the situation were reversed in the photographs and illustrations related to the role of teachers; thirdly, as for the photographs and illustrations related to social status, men were usually in higher positions than women. On the contrary, women played major role in the photographs and illustrations related to housework and childcare. Consequently, textbook writers should try to reflect the elements of gender equality when using photographs and illustrations in their books. Teachers should take a critical view of textbooks and apply to their teaching from the perspective of gender equality. Teachers should check their own lessons in order to figure out whether they teach students based on gender equality or unconsciously inject stereotyped gender roles. Students should try to see the textbooks through many different eyes including the perspectives of gender equality instead of uncritical acceptance.
