조선후기 고지도를 통해 본 전통도시 읍치의 공간구성

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 『1872년 지방지도』를 중심으로 조선시대 지역의 행정중심지인 읍치의 공간구성 상 공통된 경향성을 탐색해 보고자 하였다. 먼저 고지도 상 재현된 자연경관으로서 진산·주산, 인문경관으로서 동헌·객사의 배치관계를 통해 읍치공간을 구성하는 ‘중심축’을 확인해 보았다. 그 결과 읍치의 배후산세인 진산·주산으로부터 동헌으로 이어지는 공간구성의 중심축을 설정할 수 있었다. 다음으로 읍치를 구성하는 행정시설과 제의시설의 배치관계를 살펴보았다. 읍치 내 행정시설 중 가장 핵심적 요소인 동헌-객사 간 배치관계는 우-좌 배치가 좌-우 배치관계보다 더 많은 것으로 나타났다. 제의시설의 경우 문묘를 모신 향교와 사직단은 보통 좌묘우사로 표현되는 유교적배치원리가 지배적이었고 성황사나 여단은 대부분 읍치 후면의 배후산지에 위치하고 있었다. 마지막으로 읍치공간을 풍수 명당국면으로 구성하는 풍수 비보에 대해 살펴보았다. 숲, 조산, 제언, 형국, 연지 등 다양한 종류의 풍수비보가 대부분 군·현 읍치의 개방된 수구처 안쪽이나 바깥쪽에 조성되어 있었다.

영문 초록

This study explored common tendencies in the spatial composition of Eupchi, the regional administrative center of the Joseon Dynasty, centering on the 『1872 Regional Map』. First, I tried to construct the “spatial central axis” of Eupchi through the spatial relationship between the physical landscape and the human landscape represented on the old map. As a result, it was possible to establish the central axis of the spatial composition from Jinsan and Jusan in the backside of Eupchi to Dongheon as the core facility of Eupchi. Next, the spatial assemblage of administrative facilities and ritual facilities constituting Eupchi was examined. Among administrative facilities in Eupchi, Dongheon was identified as the most important element. In the case of ritual facilities, Hyanggyo and Sajikdan were mostly dominated by the general Confucian disposition principle, and most ritual facilities were located on mountain in the hinterland of Eupchi. Lastly, I looked at the fengshui ‘bibo’ as the positive environmental response that composes the Eupchi space. Various types of fengshui bibo such as forests, artificial mountains, and ponds were built inside or outside the open stream or river in the front of Eupchi.
