통약 가능성과 사회의 성립 가능성

국문 초록

이 글에서 우리는 사회의 성립을 위해 요구되는 통일성과 일관성이 근대사회의 경우 다름 아닌 통약성으로 대변된다고 주장하고, 통약성이 논자별로 어떻게 상이하게 이해되고 수용되는지를 고찰한다. 벤담의 경우 개인의쾌락 및 고통의 통약은 입법자의 계산에 의해 ‘직접’ 이루어진 반면, 마르크스의 경우 구체적 개별 노동의 통약은 시장 교환에 의해 ‘사후적’으로 이루어졌다. 반면 하이에크의 경우 암묵적 지식은 가격 신호 및 추상 규칙을 매개로 ‘유사’ 통약되었다. 우리는 각 논자들의 설명이 그들이 참가한 논쟁에서각자가 차지하는 위치와, 각자가 이론 구성에 선행하여 형성시켰던 고유한비전에 의존한다는 점을 밝혔다.

영문 초록

In the formation of society there should be a minimum of uniformity and coherence; modern society is no exception. The society based upon division of labor and commodity exchange meets the requirement in peculiar manner; the commensurability. We assert that the concept of commensurability is differently accommodated by each philosophical and economic theorists. According to Bentham individual pleasures and pains can be directly calculated to common measure through legislator, the personification of society. In the case of Marx concrete private labours can be ex post equated and commensurated in consequence of market exchange. From the standpoint of Hayek implicit knowledges are mediated and pseudo-commensurated by way of market price and abstract rules that support its function. We discovered that distinct character of each conception on commensurability depends on the position and stance in debates which they participate in, and vision which they ex ante construct before theoretical inquiry.
