‘왕실본향’으로서 전주의 장소성과 풍수적 배치

국문 초록

최근 들어 지역의 역사적 장소성이나 생태환경 등 차이나는 공간적 특성에 주목하는 인문학적 관심이 증대되고 있다. 본고에서는 조선시대 왕실본향으로서 전주의 장소이미지 구성과 관련된 다양한 풍수적 배치를 살펴보고 그것이 현재적 입장에서 어떤 의미를 갖는지 탐색해 보았다. 장소의미 구성 차원에서 볼 때 전주는 조선시대 접어들어 기존에 유지되던 부정적인 장소이미지를 대체하여 조선을 개국한 전주이씨의 왕실본향이자 성역으로 장소화, 탈장소화되었다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서 주목하는 풍수도 전주의 부정적인 장소이미지를 탈장소화하고 동시에 왕실본향이라는 국가적 차원의 명당국면으로 장소화하기 위한 의미 있는 장치였다고 할 수 있다. 지역인문학적 차원에서 전주의 장소이미지 구성과 관련된 풍수적 배치를 두 가지 공간수준으로 구분하여 살펴보았다. 국가적 차원의 왕실본향으로서 전주 그리고 지역의 행정중심지 읍치로서의 전주가 그것이다. 그사이 전주의 진산, 주산 논쟁을 비롯하여 여러 풍수 관련 경관이나 서사에 대한 입장 차이도 어찌 보면 이러한 공간 수준의 혼재에서 기인한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 풍수상 국가적 차원의 장소로 전주를 전제할 때 국도 한양으로 대변되는 교과서 같은 풍수 명당국면을 기대할 수 있는데 전주부의 풍수적 공간구성은 지극히 흔치 않은 사례라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구와 같이 현재적 입장에서 전통지리풍수를 통해 지역의 역사적 장소성을 접근하는 것은 그동안 정상적으로 공유돼 온 공간, 환경, 땅에 대한 작금의 인식이나 풍수의 의미, 위상에 대한 자기성찰과 실천적 태도를 요구한다.

영문 초록

In recent years, the humanistic interest in differences in spatial characteristics, such as the historical location of the region and the ecological environment, has increased. In this study, I examined various fengshui assemblages related to the construction of Jeonju s place image as the royal origin of the Joseon Dynasty and explored what it means in the present position. In terms of the construction of place meaning, it can be said that Jeonju entered the Joseon Dynasty and replaced the negative place image that was retained before the Joseon Dynasty. It can be said that fengshui also noticed in this study was a meaningful device to de-locate the negative place image of Jeonju and at the same time to place it at the national level of Myeongdang. At the regional humanities level, the fengshui assemblages related to the construction of the place image of Jeonju was divided into two spatial levels. It is Jeonju as the royal origin on the national level and Jeonju as the administrative center on the regional level. In the meantime, the differences in the meanings of various landscapes and narratives related to fengshui, including the debate of Jinsan and Jusan in Jeonju, can be considered to be attributable to the mixture of these spatial levels. When premise Jeonju as a place on the national level from the perspective of fengshui, you can expect fengshui Myeongdang, such as a textbook represented by the capital of the Joseon Dynasty, Hanyang. As in this study, approaching the historical place images of the region through traditional geography fengshui from the present point of view requires self-reflection and practical attitude toward the meaning of fengshui or the problem of the current perception of space, environment, and land that has been shared normally.
