영문 초록

China has become a major exporting country in the global trade system, while the U.S. has been suffering from enormous trade deficit. The U.S. is accusing China as a major cause for the deficit and demanding China to appreciate the value of RMB and to enlarge opening of Chinese market. However, China has been making a resolute stand regarding the appreciation of RMB since China does not want to take any policy that might cause a negative effect on the current trend of economic growth. China wants to take a gradual change while trying to reduce its expanding trade surplus in order to ease the trade conflicts with the U.S. China has been confronting the trade conflicts by applying hard and soft measures simultaneously. Externally, China is counteracting by criticizing the political aspect of the conflicts. But China is also conceding and cooperating in order to resolve the conflicts. But, now that China has risen as a major economic and trade power, its measures for counteracting the trade conflicts are also changing to diversity with more impact on the global market. Recently, China has been raising its voice that it can use the 1.4 trillion dollars of foreign reserve in counteracting against so called unfair trade pressure and in taking appropriate role in the global market. The implications of the trade conflicts between the U.S. and China is that China is opening its domestic market in the process of resolving the conflicts. Korea should use the U.S.-China agreement as a leverage to take active strategy to increase its access to the Chinese market during the Korea-China FTA negotiation.
