국문 초록

한 국가의 성장에 있어서 외국인투자는 가장 중요한 요소로서 알려져 있다. 중국은 외국인직접투자(FDI)가 경제성장에 어떠한 기여를 하는지 대표적인 예를 보이고 있다. 이러한 현상에 의해, 외국인투자가 산업 성장에 있어서 동일하게 조성되고 있는지 중요한 논제가 발생한다. 본 논문은 외국인투자가 산업별성장에 있어서 영향을 미치는지에 대한 실증분석을 제공한다. 이를 위해 1999년부터 2009년까지의 중국내 39개 산업분야별 통계를 사용하고 있으며, 연구결과 총자산에 대한 외국인 비율로 측정된 외국인투자가 중국의 산업별성장에 매우 큰 공헌을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 외국인직접투자의 산업성장 효과를 증가시키는 인적자본의 지식흡수능력은 중국에서 발견되지 않고 있다. 다만 중국이 WTO에 가입한 이후부터 인적자본의 지식흡수 능력이 보다 향상되고 있는 것으로 보인다.

영문 초록

Foreign direct investment has been known to be the most important factor in the growth of a country. China is a good example of how foreign direct investment can contributes to national economic growth. A key question arising from this phenomenon is whether foreign direct investment can also facilitate industry growth. This paper presents empirical evidence of the effect of foreign direct investment on industry growth. For this purpose, it uses panel data pertaining to Chinese 36 industry sectors over the 1999-2009 period. Evidence indicates that foreign direct investment which is measured in terms of the foreign-held share of total assets has made great contribution to Chinese industrial growth. However, the absorptive capability of human capital that makes FDI more productive in generating output was not found in China. Nonetheless, we find a very weak evidence of absorptive capability as China enters the WTO.
