갈등전환을 위한 중학생 대상 회복적 서클 수업의 개발과 효과 검증

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 중학생들의 갈등전환을 위한 회복적 서클 수업을 개발하고 그 효과를 검증하는데 있다. 갈등전환은 4요인(갈등에 대한 긍정적 인식, 갈등상황에서 관계를 고려하는 태도, 갈등에 대한 맥락적 접근, 비양립성 극복)으로 이루어진 구인으로 개념화하였고, 회복적 정의의 관점을 토대로 회복적 서클 수업을 개발하였다. 연구대상은 G광역시 소재 중학교에서 1학년 대상의 자유학년제 주제별 수업으로 갈등전환을 위한 회복적 서클 수업을 선택한 학생들이다. 이들을 실험집단(n=33)과 대기자명단 비교집단(n=31)에 무선적으로 배정하였고, 2019년 2학기에 8회기 분량의 수업을 실시하였다(회기당 90분). 자기보고식 사전검사와 사후검사로 수집한 자료에 대한 공분산분석 결과, 비교집단에 비해 실험집단에서 갈등에 대한 긍정적 인식과 갈등상황에서 관계를 고려하는 태도가 유의하게 증가하였다. 갈등전환의 주제와 회복적 서클 수업의 활동이 우리나라 교육현장에 보편적으로 도입되는데 대한 담론 조성의 기대, 이 연구의 의의와 제한점, 후속연구와 교육 실제를 위한 제언을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to develop restorative circle classes for middle school students’ conflict transformation and to test their effect. Conflict transformation was conceptualized as a multidimensional construct consisting of four factors (i.e., positive perception of conflict, relationship-considering attitude in conflict situations, contextual approach toward conflict, incompatibility-overcoming solution). Restorative circle classes were developed on the basis of such conflict transformation concepts and the perspective toward restorative justice. Seventh graders attending middle schools in G City, who chose restorative circle classes for conflict transformation as the class subject for the free-grade system, were recruited for this study. They were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (n=33) or a wait-list comparison group (n=31). During the second semester in 2019, after the experimental group received 8 restorative circle classes (90 min. per class), the comparison group received the same classes from the same instructor. Self-report questionnaires were administered as a pretest and a posttest to assess each factor of conflict transformation. The results of analyses of covariance showed that the restorative circle classes for conflict transformation were effective in enhancing the positive perception of conflict and the relationship-considering attitude in conflict situations. Expectations for the discourse on the universal adoption of restorative circle classes targeting conflict transformation in schools in Korea, the significance and limitations of this research, and the suggestions for further research and educational practice were presented.
