국문 초록

이 논문은 기업의 생존과 여유자원 간의 관계를 분석했다. 기존 연구가 주로 어떤 여유자원이 생존에 유리 혹은 불리할지를 분석했다면 이 논문은 여유자원도 그 활용에 따라 생존에 미치는 영향이 다를 수 있다는 가설을 설정하고 활용적 혁신과 탐색적 혁신으로 여유자원의 활용을 구분하여 분석했다. 2010년부터 2017년까지 국내 ICT 기업의 재무 데이터를 대상으로 분석한 결과, 재량권이 낮은 여유자원을 탐색적 혁신활동에 사용했을 때 생존에 긍정적 영향이 있음을 밝혔다. 이러한 결과는 탐색적 활동 자체가 자칫 자원의 비효율적 운용으로 인식될 수도 있지만 투입되는 자원에 대한 경영자의 재량권이 낮으면 적절히 통제될 수 있기에 오히려 기업의 생존에는 유리할 수 있다는 점을 시사하고 있다. 그간 국내에서 수행된 기업의 생존 연구는 특정 산업보다는 경제위기와 같은 특정 시점에 초점을 맞춘 경향이 있는데, 이 연구는 4차 산업혁명의 핵심 동력인 ICT 기업을 대상으로 했다는 데에 차별점이 있다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the relationship between the firm s survival and slack resources. While previous studies have identified the relationship between the types of slack resources and their survival, this study investigates the relationship between the firm’s survival and the slack resources that are used to exploitative or exploratory innovation activities. Analyzing the financial data of domestic ICT firms from 2010 to 2017, this study found a significant positive impact on survival when low managerial discretion slack resources were used for exploratory innovation activities. The result shows that while the exploratory activities themselves may be perceived as an inefficient operation of resources, low managerial discretion may be controlled appropriately and, rather, may be beneficial to the survival of the firms. Domestic survival studies focus on certain times, such as the economic crises, rather than on specific industries, this study differs in that it targeted ICT industry, a key driver of the fourth industrial revolution.
