국문 초록

이 연구는 경찰에 대한 시민의 신뢰와 경찰활동 협력의 관계를 분석하고, 그 과정에서 시민의 합리적 선택의 결과가 갖는 조절효과를 확인하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이러한 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 경찰에 대한 시민의 신뢰와 경찰활동에 대한 협력의사의 관계를 확인하였고, 합리적 선택 모델에 따른 경찰신뢰-경찰 협력 간의 조절요인에 관한 변수를 설정한 뒤 설문조사를 실시하여 확보한 자료를 바탕으로 분석을 실시하였다. 분석에 따른 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 경찰에 대한 시민의 신뢰는 경찰활동에 대한 협력에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 경찰에 대한 시민의 신뢰가 높을수록 경찰활동에 보다 적극적으로 협력하고 참여하려는 모습을 보인다고 할 수 있다. 둘째, 경찰에 대한 시민의 신뢰와 경찰활동에 대한 협력의사의 관계에서 합리적 선택 요인은 조절효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 다시 말해 시민은 합리적 선택의 결과에 따라 경찰을 신뢰함에도 불구하고 경찰활동에 비협조적인 모습을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 구체적으로 살펴보면 시민은 경찰에 협력 한다면 범죄자 또는 가해자로부터 보복을 당할 가능성이 증가할 것이라고 생각할 수 있고, 이와 같은 우려와 두려움을 느낄수록 경찰활동에 소극적이고 협력하지 않는 다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 경찰활동에 대한 시민의 협력의사를 제고하기 위해 경찰에 대한 시민의 신뢰를 증진시킬 필요가 있으며, 시민이 느끼는 보복에 대한 두려움을 경감시켜 경찰활동에 시민이 보다 적극적으로 협력할 수 있도록 해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between citizen trust in police and cooperation in police activities, and to identify the adjustment effect that the result of citizen s rational choice in the process. To achieve the purpose of this research, the factors affecting police trust were selected by model, and the variables concerning the adjustment factors between the cooperative spirit for police activities and the police trust-police cooperation according to the rational choice model were set up, and the analysis was conducted based on data obtained by conducting a survey. The analysis results are as follows. First, citizens trust in the police has been shown to affect cooperation in police activities. In other words, the higher the public s confidence in the police, the more actively they are willing to cooperate and participate in police activities. Second, the rational choice factor in the relationship between citizens trust in the police and their collaborators in police activities was shown to have a control effect. In other words, citizens appear to be uncooperative in police activities despite trusting the police, depending on the outcome of their rational choices. If we look at this in detail, citizens can think that if they cooperate with the police, the chances of being retaliated by criminals or perpetrators will increase, and the more they feel these concerns and fears, the more passive and uncooperative police activities will be. Therefore, it is necessary to promote public trust in the police to enhance citizens willingness to cooperate in police activities, and to alleviate the fear of retaliation felt by citizens so that citizens can cooperate more actively in police activities.
