History of Medical Exchange between Korea and Japan as ‘Cultural Mobility’

영문 초록

This study examines the medical view of the world of Sakae Miki who practiced medicine in Joseon during the Japanese colonial period and returned to Japan, and discusses the meaning of the description of the history of medical exchange between Korea and Japan in premodern times in his book, History of Korean Medicine. Miki was appointed as physician to Keijo Imperial University during the Japanese colonial period, and practiced Western medicine based on science-based knowledge. He viewed that diseases were targets of scientific treatment, but at the same time he squarely faced the fact that diseases were closely related to humans and all the matters that occurred around the life of humans. His survey and research conducted based on the ‘flow of culture and humans’ were observed in his book, History of Korean Medicine and Diseases. Miki collected information on Korean medicine with the attitude－Japanese medicine cannot be known without knowing Korean medicine－and described the history of Korean medicine based on it.
