국문 초록

본고에서는 규장각한국학연구원 소장 『1872년 지방지도』의 전국 군현지도 연구에 앞서 도별 지도 제작방식과 지도에 반영된 지역 특색에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 우선 1872년 강원도지도 장황형태와 제작방법을 구체적으로 연구하였다. 1872년 강원도지도는 회화성을 띠는 독창적인 표현방식이 주목된다. 강원도는 지형의 절반 이상이 험한 산지로 이루어져 있다. 강원도지도에는 이러한 지형의 특징이 잘 반영되었다. 산봉우리가 유난히 날카롭고 산줄기를 이어그린 개성적인 표현이 많다. 대표적으로 ｢양양읍지도｣는 산수화식의 회화적 표현 방식이 적용됨으로서 지역의 특색을 나타내는 산형이나 암석 등이 구체적으로 묘사되었다. 회화적 표현 방식은 지역의 모습과 그 땅이 지니는 생명력까지 전달하기에 적절한 방법이다. 강원도지도의 형태는 이전의 군현지도집과는 다르게 장황되었음이 확인되었다. 각 군현지도가 독립적인 첩(帖)으로 분책된 형태이다. 표지규격이 35×25cm로 통일되어 있어 각 군현지도 첩을 모으면 도에서 넓게는 전국 지도집의 기능을 갖는다. 이러한 장황형태는 전국에서 도별, 다시 각 군현을 상세하게 살피기에 적절한 형태를 채택한 것으로 보인다. 관찬지도로서 1872년 강원도지도는 장황형태나 제작 방식 등이 이전의 군현지도와는 다른 특징을 지닌다. 따라서 『1872년 지방지도』를 제작한 주체와 제작자, 지도의 사용 목적 등을 추정하기 위해서 도별로 나타나는 지도의 특징을 비교 연구할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

Prior to research on provincial maps complied by government in 1872, this paper aims to look into methods of making the maps and regional characteristics reflecting on them. Firstly, detailed research on the type of mounting(粧䌙) of Gangwon province maps in 1872 and methods for making those maps was carried out. There is much attention towards the unique expressional methods of Gangwon province maps in 1872 with Picturesque Quality. More than half of Gangwon province s landscape is comprised of steep mountains and such geographical feature is well reflected in Gangwon province maps. Many unique expressions such as exceptionally sharp mountain peaks and continuous sketch of the mountains are shown in the maps. Yangyang-eupjido(襄陽邑地圖) is a landscape painting with the use of Picturesque expression and shows the regional characteristics by vivid description of the mountains and rocks. Picturesque expression is an appropriate way to convey not only regional figures but also the vitality of the land. It is also confirmed that provincial maps complied by government in 1872 were mount differently compared to the earlier a collection of provincial map. Each collection of provincial map is in separate folding books (帖). Dimension of the cover is standardized to 35 x 25cm and it becomes a map book when each folding books of provincial map is gathered. It seems that such the type of mounting is chosen in order to look for province within the whole country and then to look for counties and prefectures in detail. As a government-compiled map, Gangwon province maps in 1872 have different characteristics such as the type of mounting and making method, compared to earlier provincial map. The comparison study on characteristics of each provincial map is needed to infer the cartographer, participants for the maps and their use.
