국문 초록

본 연구의 취지는 바오로 서간에 대한 새로운 접근법을 모색하고자 함이다. 연구본문으로 설정한 갈라 4,21-31, 이른바 ‘사라와 하가르 구절’은 과거에 그리스도를 통한 구원의 길에서 유다교를 배제하기 위한 방향으로 해석되기도 했었다. 이와 같은 해석에 대하여 문제를 제기한 후, 본문 속에 드러나는 바오로의 성경 해석과 그의 신학을 오늘날 어떻게 새롭게 해석할 수 있는지 방법론을 제시하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 이 목적에 도달하기 위해 성경 본문 자체에서 출발하여 본문 속에 드러나는 문학적 지표와 내적 역동성을 살펴보는 방법을 택한다. 이 작업을 통해 얻게 된 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 갈라 4,22-27은 ‘사실에 근거를 둔우의’(allegoria in factis)라는 가설을 증명했는데, 이 가설은 편지라는 문학 양식과 편지의 발신자-수신자 사이의 특별한 관계 때문에 타당성을 가진다. 갈라티아서의 발신자·화자·저자인 바오로는 allegoria in factis라는 방식으로 구약성경 속 이야기를 수신자 교회공동체의 상황에 맞추어 독창적인 해석을 제시했고, 편지의 수신자·청자·독자인 갈라티아인들은 바오로의 우의적 해석을 읽으며 자신들이 이미 그리스도를 통해 받은 참된 자유를 향유하도록 초대받는다. 참된 자유란 하가르와 이스마엘로 표상되는 율법을 통한 의로움의 길에 머물러 있을 때가 아니라 사라와 이사악으로 표상되는 그리스도에 대한 믿음을 통한 의로움의 길에 머물러 있을 때 가능하기 때문이다. 비록 연구본문 안에 ‘그리스도’라는 단어가 등장하지는 않지만, 성경 본문 기저에 흐르고 있는 바오로 신학은 그리스도론이라고 할 수 있는 이유이다. 갈라 4,21-31에 대한 앞으로의 연구를 위해 세 가지 방향을 제시하였다. 28-31절을 22-27절과의 긴밀한 연계성 속에서 읽는 방법, 이 성경 본문을 그리스도론적 관점에서 읽는 방법, 그리고 여기에서 바오로가 다루고 있는 성경 해석을 고대 유다교 전통 속에서는 어떻게 다루고 있는지 비교·분석하는 방법 등을 제안하였다. 하느님 계시의 원천 가운데 하나인 성경은 언제나 변함없지만, 성경 본문을 해석하는 관점과 방법론은 현대 독자의 시선에서 얼마든지 새로워질 수 있음을 본 연구는 알려주고 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore a new approach to the Pauline Letters. Gal 4:21-31, the so-called “Sarah and Hagar verses”, set up as a study text, have been interpreted in the past as a way to exclude Judaism from the way of salvation through Christ. After raising a problem about this interpretation, the purpose of this study is to present a methodology of Paul’s interpretation of Scripture and his theology that is revealed in the text. To reach this end, we choose to look at the literary indicators and inner dynamics that emerge from the Bible itself. The findings from this work are as follows. Gal 4:22-27 proved the hypothesis “factual allegory”(allegoria in factis), which is valid because of the literary style of letter and the special relationship between the sender and receiver of this letter. Paul, the sender, speaker, and author of the Gal, presented an original interpretation of the Old Testament stories in the context of the recipient church community in the manner of allegory based on facts. The Galatians, the recipients, listeners, and readers of the letter, are invited to read Paul’s allegorical interpretation and to enjoy the true freedom they have already received through Christ. True freedom is possible not when they remain on the path of righteousness through the Law represented by Hagar and Ishmael, but when they remain on the path of righteousness through faith in Christ represented by Sarah and Isaac. Although the term “Christ” does not appear in the text of the study, Paul’s theology at the base of the biblical text is a Christology. Three directions are presented for further study of Gal 4:21-31. How to read verses 28-31 in close connection with verses 22-27? How to read this biblical text from a Pauline Christological perspective? And here, we proposed a method of comparing and analyzing Paul’s interpretation of Scripture with the ancient Jewish traditions. The Bible, one of the sources of God’s Revelation, has always been unchanged, but this study shows that the perspective and methodology of interpreting the text of the Bible can be renewed in the eyes of modern readers.
