경주 월성유적의 고환경 연구 사례 연구

국문 초록

고고학은 인간이 남긴 물질 자료를 통해 과거의 문화를 복원하는 것을 가장 큰 목표로 삼고 있는 학문이 다. 이러한 학문적 목표 아래 과거의 물질자료를 발굴조사를 통해 확인하고 연구한다. 고고학 자료는 그 자체 뿐 아니라 출토 상황, 공반 유물 등 전체적인 맥락을 연구하게 되며, 역사와 문화를 복원하기 위한 제 1 의 자료가 된다. 역사·문화 복원의 자료는 인위적 행위의 결과로 발생한 자료 뿐 아니라 인간을 둘러싸고 있는 자연환경 과도 유기적인 관계를 형성한다는 점에서, 자료의 대상은 점차 확대되고 있다. 특히, 인간의 행위와 그 산물인 고고자료를 당시의 자연환경에 적용하여 이해하는 방식은 최근 과학기술의 발전으로 우수한 결과를 도출하고 있으며, 아울러 연구의 필요성 또한 증대되고 있다. 경주 월성 발굴조사 현장에서는 다양한 고환경 연구가 적극적으로 적용되며 실시되고 있다. 발굴조사가 시작된 2014년 12월을 기준으로 그 이전에 이루어졌던 고지형·식생 연구에 대해 소개하고, 그 바탕으로 2015년부터 진행되고 있는 고환경 연구를 소개한다. 고환경 연구는 발굴조사 현장 개별적, 선택적 사업이 아닌 고고유적 조사에서는 기본적으로 채택되어 전체적인 맥락을 이해하고 생활환경을 복원하는데 적극적 으로 활용되어야 한다. 발굴조사를 통해서 그 공간(유적)에 인간행위에 대한 고고학적 증거인 유구와 유물을 확인할 수 있다. 하지만 단편적으로 남겨진 자료들을 연결하여 어떠한 관계를 도출해낼 수 있도록하는 기반 조성이 필수적이 다. 또한 정확한 기록과 누구든 이용할 수 있는 항구적 기록 작업에 대해 고민할 필요가 있다. 우리가 발굴 조사 현장에서 수행 하고 있는 일련의 과정들이 장기적인 안목에서 신라 혹은 통일신라시대의 생활상 복원을 위한 일환이 될 수 있을 것이다. 결론적으로 발굴조사 현장에서의 고환경 연구 적용에 대한 필요성과 보편적인 원칙이 공감되어야 하며 이를 통해 고고유적을 통한 환경, 문화 복원을 구현할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Archaeology is the study that aims to restore the culture of the past through materials left behind by humans. Under these academic goals, historical material data are identified and studied through excavation research. These archaeological materials are the most important ones in the restoration of history, including not only the site itself, but also the conditions of the site and its context. The scope of data on cultural restoration is expanding in that it creates a mutually influential relationship with the natural environment and the organic relationships surrounding it all, as well as human anthropogenic data. In particular, efforts are increasing to interpret human behavior and its products of archaeological data in a way that aligns with the application, understanding and use of the natural environment. Along with the paleoenvironmental studies from the time of excavation, various paleoenvironmental studies have been conducted in Wolseong, Gyeongju. Based on the launch of the excavation research in December 2014, it will introduce previous research on high-quality and food production that has been carried out since 2015. The paleoenvironmental studies should be adopted by the basis of archeological research, rather than by individual or selective projects at the excavation site, and be actively used to understand the context and restore the paleoenvironment. The excavation will confirm that the space(historic site) contains relics and remains, which are archaeological evidence of human behavior. However, it is essential to build a foundation to link the piecemeal data together to create a relationship. It is also necessary to think about accurate records and the permanent record work available to anyone. The series of processes we are carrying out at the excavation site could be part of a long-term vision for restoring the life form Silla to the Unified Silla Period. In conclusion, the need for and universal principles for applying paleoenvironmental research at excavation sites should be shared, enabling the restoration of environment and culture through archaeological sites.
