국문 초록

본 연구는 일본이 점차 안보능력을 증진하는 현상을 국가정체성이 어떠한 기반에서 작동하였는지를 분석하려 한다. 이러한 분석은 민족국가의 구성요소를 분류하는 부잔의 분류를 통해서 이뤄질 것이다. 첫째는 국가정체성의 매개로 국가의 구성요소인 영토, 국민, 주권 등이 매개로 나타나는 물리적 기반이 있다. 둘째는 국가의 상징이라 할 수 있는 언어, 문화, 역사등이 매개로 표상되는 관념기반이 있다. 일본의 안보에 대한 분석을 이러한 국가정체성의 차원에서 물리적, 관념기반을 통해 봐야 하는 이유는 국가공동체 전반에서 보다 민감하게 여겨지는 주제가 국가가치로 연결되고 이것이 국가의 중요한 문제로서 다른 영역에 비해 상대적으로 안보화가 될 가능성이 크기 때문이다. 본 연구는 누적되어온 여론조사 데이터를 기반으로 관념기반과 물리적 기반의 문제 중에서 일본인들이 더 중요하게 여기는 지에 대해 살펴보았다. 이는 일본의 국가정체성의 차원에서 관념기반의 매개보다 물리적 기반의 매개가 보다 일본에서 더 민감하게 작동하였다고 볼수 있다. 북한에 의한 납치자문제와 중국과의 센카쿠열도의 영토 문제가 관념기반의 문제들 보다 중요하게 일본인들에게 받아들여졌고, 안보의제화로 부상하였다. 즉 일본의 안보화의 과정에서 단순히 안보적 위협이 안보문제로 단순히 이어지는 것이 아니라, 위협의 문제와 국가정체성의 기반과 상호작용하며 안보화가 추동되었고, 이것이 일본의 보통국가화에 대한 정치적 요구를 높이는 기반이 되었다고 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the basis on which Japan’s national identity is increasingly and actively promoting security. This analysis is approached from Buzan’s studies that classify the notions of the nation state. First, there is the physical basis through the territory, the people, and sovereignty. Second, there is the idea basis that the symbol of the state is represented by the medium of language, culture, and history. The reason why the analysis of Japan’s security should be seen through the physical and idea basis in the dimension of national identity is that the subject considered more important in the whole nation community is likely to be made easier in securitization. This study examines whether the Japanese consider the idea basis more important than the physical basis by analyzing accumulated survey data. It can be seen that in terms of the national identity of Japan, the mediation of the physical basis rather than the idea basis operated more sensitively in Japan. The problem of kidnappings by North Korea and the territorial problems of the Senkaku archipelago with China were accepted by the Japanese as more important than ideological problems and emerged as issues of security. In other words, in the course of the securitization of Japan, not only are security threats important issues, but the threat and the interaction based on national identity and securitization have been promoted. Moreover, these political issues demand the promotion of Japan’s normalization.
