영국의 티타임과 차음식 고찰

국문 초록

영국의 티타임은 17세기 왕실에서 시작되어 서민층까지 이어져 왔다. 본 논문에서는 티타임을 상류층, 서민층으로 구분하고 그 특징과 홍차와 함께 먹은 차음식을 고찰하였다. 상류층은 이른 아침에 테이블에서 차를 음용하기 시작하여 잠들기 전까지 하루에 7-8회의 티타임을 가졌다. 이때 곁들인 차음식으로는 빵, 샌드위치, 토스트, 비스킷, 케이크, 스콘, 머핀 등이었는데, 이것은 왕실의 차문화에 영향을 받은 것으로 사료된다. 반면, 서민층에서의 티타임은 이른 아침부터 잠들기 전까지 7-8회 가졌으며, 이때 먹은 차음식은 고기 요리, 치즈, 빵, 파이, 베이컨, 감자튀김, 케이크 등이었다. 국내에서 차와 함께 차음식이 개발되어 이용되고 있는데, 차음식 소비 활성화를 위해서는 전통음식과 함께 영국의 차음식을 융합하는 것이 바람직한 것으로 사료된다.

영문 초록

British tea time has passed down to the common people since it started from the royal family in the 17th century. This paper considered the characteristics of tea time enjoyed by the upper class and the lower class, and tea food that they ate along with tea. The upper class started to drink at the table early in the morning and enjoyed tea time seven to eight times a day until they went to sleep. This time, they enjoyed tea food, such as bread, sandwich, toast, biscuits, cakes, scones, and muffins together. It is supposed that this was influenced by the tea culture of the royal family. On the contrary, the lower class enjoyed tea food like meat dishes, cheese, bread, pies, bacon, fried potatoes, and cakes together, although they also had tea time seven to eight times from the early morning, before going to sleep. In Korea, various kinds of tea and tea food are being developed and used, these days. It is thought that for boosting domestic consumption of tea food, it would be good to combine British tea food with traditional food.
