예레미야 30-31장 문맥에서 렘 31:22의 ‘새 일’ 의 의미에 관한 고찰

  본 연구는 렘 32:22절에서 언급된‘새 일’의 의미를 고찰하기 위해 텍스트 언어학적 방법론을 사용하여 그 의미를 밝히고 거기서 도출된 신학적 의미를 찾으려는 시도이다. 텍스트 언어학은 기존의 언어학이 언어를 하나의 추상적인 시스템(langue)으로 보고 텍스트의 의미를 개별 단어(word)에 두는 것과 달리, 텍스트는 특정 상황에서 화자(저자)와 청자(독자) 사이에 일어나는 구체적인 의사소통 행위라는 전제 하에 텍스트 상에 일어나는 실제 언어학 (parole)에 관심을 갖는다. 텍스트 언어학은 본문을 하나의 통일된 의사소통행위(communicative unity)로 보고, 저자가 자신의 의도한 의미를 구문론(syntax)과 의미론(semantics) 상에서 일관되게 표출한다고 전제한다. 만약 횡설수설한다면 독자는 글의 의미를 발견할 수 없기 때문이다. 일차적으로 일관된 의미를 파악하기 위해서는 적어도 문장단위를 넘는(beyond the sentence level) 더 큰 본문과의 상관관계 속에서 어떤 특정 단어나, 구절, 모티프, 그리고 주제들을 고찰해야 한다. 저자는 본문의 의미를 자신이 사용하는 독특한 문법적 형태를 통해서, 그리고 본문의 흐름의 일관성을 통해서 드러낸다. 또한 이런 구문론과 의미론의 일관된 흐름을 통해서 단락이 어디서 나누어지는지 독자에게 암시를 주고, 독자로부터 어떤 반응을 이끌려고 노력한다. 이런 후자의 요소는 본문의 화용론적 기능(pragmatics)으로서 여기서 우리는 저자의 의도의 본 모습을 엿볼 수 있다. 더 나아가 텍스트 언어학은 이와 같은 단락에서 발견되는 글의 의미와 저자의 의도가 전체 본문과의 관계 속에서 어떻게 주제적 네트워크를 이루는지도 관심을 갖는다. 결국 통일된 의사소통 행위로서 본문을 보기 때문에 해석에서 주위 문맥이 매우 중요하게 대두된다.
  이와 같은 텍스트 언어학적 입장에서 볼 때 렘 31:22에서‘새 일’이라는 말이 속한 단락은 렘 31:15-26임을 알 수 있다. 예레미야 전체 문맥과 주위의 문맥, 그리고 렘 31:22가 속한 단락에서 렘 31:22의‘새 일’의 의미를 바라 볼 때, 그것은 이전의 야훼의 사역과 다른 새로운 사역을 지시한다. 이것은 하나님의 백성이 다시는 방황하지 않을 것이며, 동시에 새로운 창조의 시작을 알리는 창조사역이다. 거시적인 문맥에서 예레미야 31장은 예레미야 2-4장에서 모세언약의 파기로 인한 모든 언약들의 파기를 역

  This work has attempted a synchronic study on the meaning of the ‘New Thing’ in Jer 31:22 from the perspective of the textlinguistic method. The text-immanent approach of the textlinguistic method has its basis in the assumption that the meaning of the text is more than the sum of the parts comprising sentences. In a nutshell, the intended meaning of particular words, clauses, motifs and themes should be explored by attending to the whole text or larger texts (beyond the sentence level) of which they are part, because the text is a communicative unity. The text linguistic holds to the view that the author has sought to achieve syntactical cohesion, semantic coherence, and pragmatic congruence throughout the whole text in order to persuade the reader. When the author communicates his meaning, he tries to make the meaning accessible to the reader by formulating the whole text in such a way that its grammatical parts on the surface are cohesive and its whole contents are semantically (or thematically) coherent to the reader. With such meanings of the text, the author intends to elicit an effect on the part of the reader. This kind of effect has to do with the pragmatic function of the text. Of course, information on the original audience (or reader) and the communicative setting also helps the interpreter find the author’s intended meaning. However, the crux of textlinguistic is that the intended meaning of text can be more explicitly revealed when the reader pays attention to the literary context in which it is written. In this perspective of the textlinguistic method, a study on the meaning of ‘new thing’in Jer 31:22 first finds that the literary unit of Jer 31:15-26 can be demarcated from its surrounding materials. Also, the argument is convincing that Jer 31:22 points to Yahweh’s creative activity which has a creation dimension in the cosmic sense for both Yahweh’s people and the earth.
