국문 초록

본 연구는 열 가지 재앙들 가운데 아홉째 재앙인 흑암이 내리는 재앙의 본문에 대한 구성비평적 연구이다. 출애굽기 10장 21-29절에 기록된 이 재앙이 기록된 MT를 집중적으로 분석하여 번역하였으며, 이 번역에 기초하여 본문의 내용에 대한 구조분석과 내용분석을 시도하였다. 우선 ‘만질 수 있는 흑암’이라는 표현에 대해서 필자는 이것이 실체가 있는 흑암이기 때문에 만질수 있는 흑암이라는 개념으로 이해하였다. 동시에 이 흑암은 애굽 땅에 내렸다고 되어 있으며, 애굽 사람들은 아무도 거처에서 나갈 수 없었다는 기록을 발견하게 된다. 이것은 사람들이 애굽 땅을 밟고 서 있을 수 없게 된 상황을 나타내며, 궁극적으로 애굽 땅이 황량하고 텅 빈 공간이 되었음을 상징해 준다. 따라서 이러한 내용들이 공통적으로 지시하고 있는 중심개념은‘땅’이 될 수밖에 없음을 이 연구의 결과는 입증해 준다. 동시에 이스라엘 사람들이 사는 고센 땅에는 빛이 있다는 표현을 통해서 여호와가 애굽 사람들과 이스라엘 사람들만을 구별하는 것이 아니라, 궁극적으로는 애굽 땅과 고센 땅을 구별하는 것임을 알 수 있었다. 땅을 구별하시고 이렇게 구별된 땅에 각각 흑암과 빛이 있도록 하시는 여호와의 능력을 보여주는 것이 이 흑암의 재앙이다.

영문 초록

This study is a composition analysis of the plague of Darkness in Exodus. The ninth plague out of ten plagues that YHWH brought to Pharaoh and the land of Egypt. Every plague happened because Pharaoh did not know who YHWH was when Moses asked him to let Israel go into the wilderness for 3 days to serve YHWH. Therefore, this plague of Darkness is also to teach him about YHWH. Darkness fell on the land of Egypt for three days and every Egyptian could not move at all and had to stay at home. This darkness could be felt according to the text and it has its entity in the space like any other things. Of course, the Egyptians must have tried to turn on their lights, but they failed to light their houses and were not able to see anything around them. This means that all their knowledge was useless in front of YHWH’s plague. The plague of Darkness did not do any harm to the Egyptians in the physical sense. However, their mind was affected by this plague because everything they have known was shattered at once. Darkness was upon the land of Egypt and no one could stand upon the land because he/she could not see each other. The darkness that could be felt and existing shows that it has its own weight. This means that darkness was coming down to the land. So this darkness itself points to the concept of the land. To the contrary, there was light in the land of Goshen where Israel lived. YHWH distinguished the land of the Egyptians and the land of Israel. This again indicates that the concept of the land is the key concept in this plague narrative. The streets of the land of Egypt was empty because no one could go outside. The land of Egypt became desolate and the concept of the land was focused. As a result, the narrative of the darkness plague reveals that the main concept of the text is nothing but ‘the land.’ Furthermore, Pharaoh said that Moses would be dead when he saw his face again. Ironically this plague is about seeing itself. Pharaoh did not learn anything
