포은의 출처(出處)와 풍류적 유배의식 고찰

국문 초록

이 글은 포은(圃隱) 정몽주(鄭夢周, 1337~1392)의 출처관과 그의 유배생 활에 나타난 인생관을 재조명하는데 그 목적이 있다. 그동안 포은의 출처(出 處)에 대한 평가는 긍정과 부정이 선명하게 엇갈리고 있다. 필자는 포은의 출처관을 올바르게 이해하기 위해서는 불사이군(不事二君)의 정치관을 다시 분명하게 검토할 필요가 있다고 생각한다. 그리고 포은의 가치관은 그의 짧은 유배시기와 역사적 인물들의 유배에 대한 그의 소회와 해석을 통하여 엿볼수 있다고 생각된다. 이를 위해 포은에 대한 조선시대 여러 유명학자들의 평가와 그 요지를 살펴보았다. 그것은 그들의 평가에 포은의 출처관에 대한 성리학적 평가 기준이 담겨있기 때문이다. 그 중요한 기준이 바로 ‘불사이군’이다. 그러나 포은의 출처관에 대한 평가 기준이 불사이군 보다 불사이국(不事 二國)에 두는 것이 나을 것이다. 왜냐하면 필자는 국가는 왕과 신하가 중심이 아니라, 국가 혹은 백성이 더 중요하다고 보기 때문이다. 다음으로 포은의 시를 중심으로 그의 유배의식을 살펴보았다. 포은은 개인의 공명(功名)과 영달(榮達)을 중시하지 않은 학자이다. 그는 유배와 험난한 사행(使行)과 정치적 시련을 호방하고 자유로운 풍류정신으로 극복하였다. 또한 암울한 고려조정에 대한 근심과 우국(憂國)의 정을 시를 통하여 표현하 였다. 본고에서는 포은의 정신과 가치관을 왕조사관으로 평가할 것이 아니라 국민과 국가를 우선으로 하는 근대적 시각으로 재평가하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This article aims to review the viewpoint on taking and retirement public post(出處觀) of Poeun(圃隱) Jeong Mong-ju(鄭夢周. 1337-1392) and the talented in letters and unconventional in life style(風流) of exile. So far, Poeun’s assessment of its source has been clearly mixed with positive and negative. I think it is necessary to review the politics of ‘serving but one king(不事二君)’ in order to understand the source of Poeun correctly. And it is believed that Poeun’s values can be seen through his brief exile and his own interpretation of the exile of historical figures. To this end, several famous scholars of the Joseon Dynasty evaluated Poeun and looked at the main points. This is because their assessment contains the sexual criteria for assessing Poeun’s ‘the viewpoint on taking and retirement public post’. The important criterion was ‘serving but one king(不事二君)’. However, I believe that the criteria for evaluating Poeun’s source should not be set in the ‘serving but one king’, but rather the ‘serving but one Country(不 事二國)’. Because the Country is more important than the king and his subjects, not the center. Poeun is a scholar who does not value personal resonance and spirituality. He overcame exile, tortuous practices, and political hardships with a free spirit. He also expressed his concerns about the grim adjustment of the Goryeo Dynasty and the affection of ‘the ardent patriotic sentiment(憂國衷情)’ through poetry. Instead of evaluating Poeun’s spirit and values as a royal inspector, the main building aims to reevaluate Poeun’s spirit and values to a modern perspective that puts the people and the state first.
