중고선박 거래량에 미치는 주요 요인 분석

국문 초록

해상운송은 물류의 핵심수단으로 세계 주요국들은 수출입의 대부분을 선박을 통해 운송하고 있으며, 우리나라의 경우도 선박을 통한 해상운송이 전체 수출입 물량에서 차지하는 비중이 99% 이상에 달할 정도로 높다. 해상운송의 수급은 수요와 공급으로 이루어지며, 수요는 물동량이 공급은 선박이 각각 담당하고 있다. 그런데 선박에 탑재된 주요 기관들은 시간이 경과하면 부식하는 가용기간이 있는 것이 대부분이기 때문에 선박은 영구재가 아니고 일반적으로 20-25년 정도의 가용연수를 가지게 된다. 그런데 전체 가용기간 도중에 선박을 소유한 선주가 해당 선박을 매각하는 일이 비일비재하다. 더 이상 화물을 운송할 일감이 없어지거나 아니면 노령화로 인해 운항효율성이 감소하여 새로 선박을 건조하여 기존 선박을 대체하기 위함 등이 그 원인이다. 이렇게 선박들 이 매물로 나와 중고선 매매 시장을 형성하게 된다. 본 연구는 이러한 배경 하에 세계 물류활동에 근간이 되는 선박의 연간 중고거래량을 종속변수로, 설명변수로는 세계해상물동 량(world seaborne trade), 세계 선복량(total world fleet), 세계 신규선박 발주량(total contracting), 세계 GDP 성장률(world GDP)을 선정하고, 공적분 모형(co-integration model)과 벡터오차수정 모형(vector error correction model; VECM)을 사용하여 중고선박 거래량에 대한 장기균형함수를 추정하고 설명변수들 각각의 영향력을 분석하였다. 또한 본 연구는 VECM을 사용하여 중고선박 거래량이 장기균형 시점에서의 거래량으로부터 이탈해 있을 때 어떠한 속도로 장기균형을 향해 수렴하는지 이동속도를 추정하였다. 분석결과, 현 시점의 중고선박 거래량이 장기균형 시점의 거래량보다 높거나 낮은 경우 모두 장기균형을 향해 수렴한다면 이는 중고선 거래 시장에 자율적인 조정 기능이 존재하여 시간이 경과하면 궁극적으로 장기균형으로 수렴함을 시사하는 것이다.

영문 초록

This study attempts to analyze the influence of significant factors affecting the secondhand ship sales volume using a Granger Casuality Test, Unit Root Test, Co-integration Model and a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). Futhermore this study attempts to confirm the long-term equilibrium function which states the convergence speed level toward the secondhand ship sales volume on long-term equilibrium. First, this study analyzes the co-integration model to calculate the influence of prime factors affecting the total sales volume of global secondhand ship market. This study uses the data published by English logistic broker, Clarksons. The analysis results explain a 6.3% increase in total secondhand ship sales volume when the world seaborne trade volume increases at 1.0%, a 1.8% decrease in total secondhand ship sales volume when the total fleet in world seaborne logistics increases at 1.0%, a 0.29% decrease in total secondhand ship sales volume when the total amount of new building contracting increases at 1.0%, and a 0.18% increase in total secondhand ship sales volume when 1.0% increase in world GDP, respectively. In addition in the results of VECM analysis, the error term finally converges towards long-term equilibrium sales volume for secondhand ship when current sales volume is higher or lower than one of at long-term equilibrium point. In case of 1.0% higher than long-term equilibrium sales volume, the sales volume decreases 0.09% in next period and increases 0.54% in subsequent period when 1.0% lower than sales volume at long-term point. This result indicates that even if the current secondhand ship sales volume is different from the one in long-term point’s sales volume, it ultimately converges toward the long-term equilibrium’s sales volume. In future subsequent research, it is expected that comparison research of every study may be possible if the research is carried out on other various kind of vessel types including container ships, bulk carriers, tanker, liquid oils carriers, and so on.
